Why Build Web 2.0 sites?

I see a lot of people that like to build tons of Web 2.0 properties,
and I am just curious on why, when their are so many high pr
link sellers to get quality links? No, not $5 fiv, and they are not
cheap either, and price range can go from $20-$100...

If you get 10-100 web 2.0 properites back to your money site,
and then I get a backlink from Wiki to CNN, who do you think
would be more powerful. I am not being a smart ass, as I am
not an SEO guru, so I am seriously asking that very question.

Sure, your web 2.0 properties were cheap, some may stick,
some may not simply because web 2.0 is a diluted market.
my wiki link may cost $29 and examiner with 1000 word
article may cost between $75-100 bucks...

and when you build web 2.0 properties, then you have to send backlinks
to them in order to power them up. I guess if you are using automated link
building that you are not supposed to be using, then fine, however, with
the pR sites, you may only need to send a few backlinks, if any at all.

Why do people continue to buy sub-Pr links, then when they get
penalized, then the first place to show up to complain is here or other forums.

    What do you think?

You shouldn't limit yourself to one or the other. Focus on both. My opinion is that web 2.0 is better in the respect that you can create the web 2.0 solely around your niche, build some links to them (I opt for unique domain blog comments, social signals and social bookmarks because its cheap), and link back. Because you control the web 2.0 you can make sure that all the link juice is flowing to your page that the backlink comes from, and ensure that the link will be nestled within high quality content.

I tend to focus on building batches of 30 and dripping the backlinks from them, focusing on a high volume search term optimised page.

It makes sense, however, that sounds like something I need to outsource
as long as they know how to create proper web20 sites, because creating
a high quality web20 can take time, more so if you do several, ie like 30....

I do mine manually and plan them several months before I will start backlinking. I aim for 1-2 posts a month on them, nothing special just making sure their unique. I then buy linking packages for each and then do the same the next month and the month after. Then I will update one each week with a higher quality post and a backlink to my money site.

So in essence I will be getting 1 regular backlink a week over 7 months. For not a lot of hard work, when it's split over several months and just a few dedicated afternoons.
