Why .blogspot.com is blocked in some countries

Hi,

I checked and found that .blogspot.com is blocked by many pakistani isps. but i couldnt find any reason , so i checked my blog with proxy site

not sure about pakistani, but i heard malaysia block blog because they are scare of people sharing opinion online . It might be the reason, no freedom of speech

 

Happens in many countries from time to time. The Government thinks that some blogs are not appropriate for public viewing.

 

Some times Government officials want to block some content but their big heads always prompt them to block the whole .blogspot.com;

But personally i am quite thankful to those who blocked it in Pakistan about one year ago coz its blockage has introduced me to the greatest Word Press!

 

Yep, Wordpress rocks and i personally think it is better to make blog on your own domain..

Ya Blogspot for blocked in India for a short period of time too as the government thought that people may share some information and opinion with other

 

I hate it when the government turns on the proxy and starts blocking things.
It's disgusting...

 

lucky i don't live in those country that have such backward thinking

Some content is not suitable for widespread consumption. Freedom of speech has its limits everywhere except on the internet so govt's have to block irresponsible,inflamatory and unsuitable content. But yes if there is a way to block just the unsuitable blogs then govt's should adopt that measure instead of blocking all of blogspot.com. But I don't think that is possible or it is way too labour intensive a process to be practical.

 

Freedom of speech is something many countries hate. If you're China, they do it by censoring Google! If you're India, you do it by blocking out the 2nd most popular site in India, Orkut!

 

And in some countries like the US you don't need govt's to censor the media. The media engages in self censorship.

 

Such good forums should not be banned.I mean they are for no harm.

 

They may be having security reasons for filtering the contents they think unsafe. That might be the reason for the restriction...

 

since I am from malaysia, just to let you guys know that blogspot is not blocked here. In general, in corporate / govt settings, their users are not able to go to some blogspot sites. But, general users who do access blogs from home / cyber cafes are able to do so.

Just to correct some misconception here.

 

Blogspot had been banned in China but now it isn't.

Unfortunately wordpress.com is banned by GFW

 

govts dont want thier people to earn money from blogger.....
