When I search for backlinks in Google Webmasters, nothing shows up. However, when I go to google.com and use the link: operator it says there's 80 or so. Any ideas?
I assume it takes some time for google webmaster tools to be updated. Usually, it is the other way around. So it is weird.
There has been some weird stuff going on lately with the backlinks in Google's Webmaster Central. I've noticed my links (for all my sites) in there have not been updated for quite a while. All I can think is that maybe Google is about to release come new link tool or some sort of mass backlink update!?
I would agree it seems to be what I would call a weakpoint in their software. I have noticed the same thing on a lot of my sites and just came to live with it. really if your seeing a lot of backlinks when you search link: in google those are backlinks, however I'm sure your concerned of the PR stuff, and it will eventually happen.
Assuming you compare your links in webmaster tools and the link: command, it does sound weird... - Usually it is the other way around... If this issue is new, I would give it time till the next G update and see if it was a glitch in their previous update....
Another note on site maps for Google...Does anyone have any recommendations on how large a site map can be. I have an article directory which has the potential to get quiet large. The first submission was for 366 url's. Should this be split up into say 100 per page?
Usually Google doesn't show all backlinks you have . Sometimes they show nofollow blog comments as backlinks . But in this case if you have backlinks in search , it would definitely show up in webmaster account .
