Hello everybody, I have a website where I'm aiming for "funny pictures" in SE's... I've been doing that real intense for about 6 months (meaning a lot of link exchanges - some PR7 sites, a lot of PR6's and a hell of a lot PR5 and downwards...) But still, I'm not even ranked for "funny pictures"... I've tried this http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/ and all I get for that keyword is "N/A" By checking google, I can see I have 3.550 backlinks... IMO that should be enough, if not to be ranked well, then just to be ranked! I look forward to hearing from you all, every advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Lasse
Sorry, i forgot to mention which site... The site is www.funnypictures.dk and it's currently PR6. I havn't yet actually tried the network, but I have signed up. Do you think I would get ranked if I used the ad network?
You would get substantial weight with a PR6 page and the 450 or so pages you have. Look at Shawns ebay page, hasn't hindered him in anyway. When you signup pile all the weight one you one keyword and see what it does. You are currently ranked 439, out of 12 million sites, so you are not doing too bad.
Could you please explain what you mean? You mean, only to aim for 1 keyword? How can you tell? Thanks!
The keyword tracker tool only checks the first 200 keywords. I don't use any other automated systems, but you can set your google search prefs to show 100 results/page and then go to page four and do an edit/find to find your listing.
hmm, I'm here: http://www.google.com/search?q=funny+pictures&num=100&hl=da&lr=&as_qdr=all&start=400&sa=N
If you want to see your ranking (and it is over #200 so the keyword tracker doesn't see it) you can use www.googlerankings.com It is manually and one keyword at a time but it is nice when you want to make sure you are progressing on a really competetive word. Theres a link to their Yahoo tool there too.
When I try that, I don't get anything. It just says: Sorry, Your site was not within the ranks in Googleâ„¢'s results. Is that what you mean by 'one keyword only'? Because I entered "funny pictures"... Also, would you guys recommend using the ad network? Would it do a lot for me?
Yes do try! Like l234244 said, you are bound to get some decent weight. Nothing beats quality anchor text links from a huge variety of different IP websites. (OK, 1 from G's homepage would beat it status-wise perhaps...)
You are #439 - Most likely you didnt change it from Check Top 100 to Check Top 1000 Also be sure you enter your domain without the www (per the instructions) Cheers
Ok... I've been meaning to ask something else. Because my site is only about 6-7 months old, will I ever get a chance to be #1 for the phrase "funny pictures"? Or will big and older sites, always be the first? Is it about age, or is it simply about getting 100k backlinks?
It's about satisfying all (or as many as you can) of the algorithm variables. In other words... We don't know. It's not just age, it can probably be done with millions of links.
Reaching the optimum value for each and every variable. But you don't know the algo so you don't know the optimum.
But all in all your advice would be to just get as many backlinks as possible, right? Should I just exchange with every site I see, or should I just exchange with bigger sites - PR5, PR6 and PR7's? Thanks
