    I'll add my 2 cents:

I bought a new PC with Vista the day it came out from a large electronics chain store. That afternoon I'd already had vista crash and spit out more bugs than... something with a lot of bugs.

I couldn't burn CDs, had all sorts of weird and wonderful errors coming up for different things, it was much slower, and overall didn't feel nice. After re-starting it asked for a password that I never gave it, and then wouldn't let me in.

I called the Support line who told me to do a re-install of vista. That I did. I could get in, but just to have more errors come up (one every 10 mins or so). I called support again. They walked me through another install. Still no luck.

I took it back to the shop and told them Vista was released too early and that I'd like the fastest PC they have with XP Media Center loaded onto it swapped with my Vista one. Done. I'm happy now, never have to wait for anything to load!

I find my best solution is running Kubuntu 7.10 as my main OS and running Vista Home Prem. under VMWare. I use Wine for most windows apps but if there's one that doesn't want to cooperate its just a matter of getting vmware up and resuming my vm state for vista. Now, admittedly, Vista runs appallingly in a VM normally, but by using an app that I created, it is a LOT more responsive. Originally I designed the app, named Sparky8, when I was running Vista RC1 natively, but the big gains in responsiveness are acheivable in both a VM and natively. There are also big gains to be made on XP as well.

If you want to download Sparky8, get it from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2TA8FBQL - I am currently in the process of developing a website for it (sparky8.net)

i think its the fact that Xp is just plain simpler, Xp will never go out of style because everyone just loves it. Microsoft made a mistake making Vista, trying to make us pay extra money for something that Is the same thing but looks different. Vista is confusing to get around too ^-_-^

vista is pure crap, what do you have on there that you can't easily install on xp (i mean besides the bugs and annoying prompts telling you everything might be a virus). xp runs faster and is less annoying. using xp for the rest of my life would be fine by me.

I hate any kind of upgrading, it always creates problems that interferes with getting work done.

I'll stay with XP as long as I can.

Vista isn't that unstable guys, I ran it for a while as my main OS even in RC1 stage and it was nice and stable. Under virtualisation it's also very stable.

i choose xp pro instead of vista for:
*i am already used to win xp pro, i have everything i need why should i change?
*I don't want to be forced to upgrade my pc parts to be able to use vista.
*No need to pay extra to get a bigger resource eating OS.
*Vista is just an XP pro with a huge makeover, some system engineer friends told me it and explained to me why, but i am not an expert on OS, so i just got a basic idea of it.
*I don't like to be limited on my media entertainment by some OS and absurd policies.
*Don't like to be spied more than what normal xp users are already by microsoft.
*And many other reason, i don't have time to write for.
