ROFLMFAO! security sucks on vista, its much easier to hack, you should know the topic before starting one! omg cista sucks, its a memory hogger aswell
I don't have time to work my way exhaustively through the whole thread Ryan, it has probably been asked by someone already but my immediate question would be: Faster than what? If you are using Vista on a new system and comparing it to and installation of XP running on a more obsolete machine (even just 6 months older) then this is harldy a useful/fair/accurate comparison. I don't think anyone claims that Vista is unusable, but the hassle and compromises that would have to be made in term of loss of time/productivity and the increase in resources required does not make Vista an atractive option while there is no imperative (that means pressing and inescapeable need) to use it instead of XP which has an equivalent for every new feature Vista makes available, is already installed tweaked and customized on our machines. Yes I had this one of my machines. I thought it did look neat, in places. But I dislike the way the widened minimize, maximize, close buttons in the top right of windows look.
Most people are against it because it runs much slower on their pc's and means they have to pay a stack of money to upgrade. Over time this will fizzle out though.
It would fizzle out as more people moved over to Linux if only... Some Linux consortium could get together and code support for the kind of features (gaming support included) that the people who own more than one machine, and are advocates of home computer use approve of, then it would cause sufficient momentum to help microsoft's self-created negative momentum in the domestic market, dislodge them for the first time in too many years.
I think Linux and windows are both going to be the default OS on most computers. Virtulization will make this possible. Dell already announced that they are going to do this
Windows Vista is a wayyyyy better then XP !!!! But due to hardware requirements mostly people don't like this vista because their pc cannot run the heavy software and they stop using Vista , then stuck to XP again...
I love vista! I only use vista now, but i've go ta dual-boot xp-vista The problem is that I had a bad installation and I have some problems, but I'm glad I still can use vista! BTW: I don't have any security software and everything is off (security feutures) Recently I installed anti-virus and anti-spyware which annoyed me because of a bit ram usage but still. I just did a scan and nothing was found!
How is it better? As i've said before, my hardware easily surpassess the requirements but I choose not to use it. I'm still using Vista on my notebook, but I wouldn't buy it again and I won't upgrade my laptop.
I use Ultimate on a custom core Duo quad/ 4 GB ram system and a pretty cheap $100 G-Force gfx card and its fine. I like it more than XP. For users that seem to have hardware issues.. just upgrade, you are going to have to anyway. People said the same thing when XP came out and there were the die hard 98 fans. The same thing is going to happen when the new windows comes out to replace Vista.
It does not run faster. The GUI (graphics user interface i.e. "design") is both ugly (in my opinion) and is so heavy weight that it takes a lot from your computer. It's very stupid. If your computer is not good enough sometimes, it will change to a different lighter-weight theme with a message saying you don't have enough memory or something. Extremely stupid. Also, my friend says it does not have better security than XP, but I'm not sure on that because I have to live with a Vista to know that (well, I do have one in my house but it's not mine and I don't use it often). I'm on an iMac. My brother has a Vista computer and from personal experience it sucks.
Because Vista doesn't support the ie6 browser I need for testing and alot of programs don't work with it yet. The looks are a nice novelty but I need reliability so XP does me.
Vista is a pain, it's unfortunate that some applications now a days are being made for vista so that u are forced to buy Unless you can find a work around.. I used vista, it's a nice interface no arguing there, but its much slower when I play games or do multiple things at once, it can lag. I think if your gonna be on Vista, you should have a Dual Core processor & at least 2GB Memory, cuz honestly I got 1GB at moment, Running at 2.4GHZ (4000+) S939 AMD 64 and it still doesn't run like it should on that computer.. I mean its a little outdated, but i think the majority have similar hardware as I do if not slower..
Well, my next computer will be a Mac....I wish I would've gotten a MacBook pro last time....grr...stupid me!
