I'm now with XP and I'm seriously not planning to install Vista within the next year...or maybe ever.

Microsoft has gone backwards with Vista rather than forwards. What a trashy product.

I'm a Mac user primarily but I've got a Windows box that I use for some stuff that I just can't run on my Mac. Vista seems to have taken a lot of cues from OS X, some good some not so good.

I'm not dead-set against Vista but there are 2 pieces of software I use regularly that won't run in it. Both are from smaller developers and they can't tell me when they'll get them updated. I'm having to run them on an older notebook with XP on it for the time being.

These same arguments came up when XP was released. XP sucks, Windows 2000 is way better. Even Windows 98SE is way better. In 5 years, 10 years or however long it takes Microsoft to come out with the next version of Windows, the new one will suck and everyone will be sticking with Vista, thank you very much. It's the nature of the beast.

Yes, it's eye candy and that's about it. I don't see much on the "improved security", you still hear about just as many exploits on Vista as on XP. I have never had a virus on any of my computers, so I don't take the security claims particularly seriously.

Yes, if it's based on Vista, it will suck. However, I won't be sticking with Vista. I have one machine running it, and none of the other machines at home will be upgraded. I will move to linux rather than upgrade. Actually, ReactOS should be ready by then, so i'll be able to use that.

The problem with Vista is that Microsoft forgot who is boss. It's the customer who decides not the companies. Microsoft thought that just because they release a product and demand that everybody buy new hardware that everybody would. Well Microsoft you have been told who is boss.

I chose XP. It is just better software IMO. More efficient etc. And if you are in it for graphics, just get the transformation pack, I did :p

XP for life :p (or until the next version of windows if it's actually better than XP)

I like how Vista looks, but to tell you the truth I don't like how it's set up. I can't find "Run" for the life of me and Windows Explorer is difficult to navigate. Also, World of Warcraft doesn't run on it well at all. I ended up having to cancel my WoW account. When I got my laptop (Vista pre-installed) I tried to format, but there were no drivers available for this model for 2K3, but when 2K8 comes out they may make drivers for this laptop and I'll go that route.

I can't find "Run" either, if you find it let me know. I ran WoW fine, but I just don't care for the game like I used too, so I stopped playing.

I personally am enjoying vista. I got it and it is very pretty looking. All my games, programs and everything run on it, I don't know what you are talking about with the compadibility issues. Everything is running good for me. Games, software, even the porn.

No problems, and I love the desktop tilt feature.

Mesoc, Run is right their when you click on the start button. Their is a little search box that opens but it doubles as the run command.

You can type in "calc", "cmd" etc and it will launch the programs.

So true. It's just the lack of the hardware support that most computers don't have. In the next couple of years we'll see a big transition as memory and hard drives continue to become cheaper and more affordable. Computers will be quad and octo core along with 4gb or more of memory and large hard drives which won't even see a slow down in speed, and Vista will be great on them. And then of course the next one code-named Vienna will be bad at first sure, but we will progress yet again, the same way.

I agree with the previous poster, that Vista will be the top OS in just a year or two when all the kinks are worked through and everyone's software is compatible with it.

Everytime Microsoft comes up with a newer version of its OS every 2 years, why should we have to shell out a few hundred dollars for it? For Bill to get richer? Or for Microsoft engineers to be able to earn (justify) their salaries?

If I pay a few hundred bucks for a software product, I think it's a reasonable expectation that the company is not going to keep bugging me about it or restrict what I can do with it. If I want to keep putting it on new machines, provided it's only one machine at a time, I should be able to do so because I paid for it. I also dont expect to get 'Your copy of Windows is not genuine' shit after I buy a pricey 'Professional' version.

And finally when XP is working perfectly fine, why should I buy Vista? I certainly dont have that sort of money to splurge.
