Feedback why are there horrible digital artifacts added to group pics when uploading?

    Just wondering.
Every time I try to upload an image to my fav social groups I get a horrible and unnecessary digital artifact relating to the properties of the image. Personally I find it as useful as displaying the images hex code or some other obscure piece of data.
though I guess someone may find it useful.

    example: [IMG]

I've tried to upload different sizes, added extra pixel colour, all to no avail. Interestingly enough some of the images I uploaded last year don't show the artifacts so
I'm guessing that images uploaded long ago will remain unaffected whist new images get salted.

Anyway is there anyway to circumvent this or is it just one of those things you put up with as part of the coding for DP's new bulletin board layout?

It's only the resized thumbnail, not the actual image (click the thumbnail for the original).

    It's built into vBulletin.
