Why are the visitors from yahoo so fewer than google?

My site is about olympic and the rank of yahoo is similar with google's.
But the visitors are fewer.

 

Yahoo is not as popular as Google so fewer people are using it hence the low traffic.

 

More people use Google than Yahoo.
That's why it's the number one search engine.

 

But the amount is not suit the rate.
The visitors from yahoo are too small.

 

maybe not lot of people search on olympics

 

So why alexa gives better rank to yahoo than google ???

 

I would take NO notice of alexa rankings.

I get 700% more traffic from google than Yahoo, I don't really care where it comes from, in fact I am happy with this as you are better ranking with google than yahoo anyway.

 

That's a good point because it is apparent that Yahoo! is the #1 visited homepage, rather much I don't usually search with Yahoo! Search - rather with Google.

 

Yahoo is a portal from which people use a lot of different yahoo services, not just search. Probably not primarily search.

Yahoo bombards one with NEWS, STOCKS, BUSINESS
WEATHER, all kinds of crap. when all you really care
about is searching for whatever is it your searching for.

Because non-search traffic of Google is probably less than 50%, while it makes the bulk of Yahoo because of its vast number of sub-sites. On the other hand, Google has localized domains for different countries while Yahoo prefer to use sub-domains of the main site yahoo.com

 

Well, because there are almost four times more people use Google then Yahoo. I am surprised why anyone uses Yahoo I cannot ever find anything with Yahoo. I would imagine the people that use it either have email with Yahoo or they have their DSL through ATT that uses Yahoo as their portal.

My traffic comparison for yahoo & google is 1:20.. Very few traffic from yahoo..

 

Well, I use Yahoo mail daily, thus visiting their site daily, but never search the internet with them.

If you think Yahoo is bad, MSN is much worst for one of my sites. Yahoo at least sent some traffic, but MSN looks dead.

 

I think the big difference in traffic is taken as proof but that's also only partly true. As most people rank better in Google than in Yahoo so they get more exposure at Google.

 

It is difficult to get the top ranking in yahoo.... and specially it is very difficult for new sites. But this is not the case with Google. Google is a bit humble to new sites. This is the reason why Google's results do vary so often and as well new site's gets traffic too. In this way google satisfying wide range of visitors and site owners. May be thats what makes the google monopoly..

 

i dont know what you guys are talking about...if you know what you are doing, yahoo will be your best friend...I personally make over 93% of my money from the traffic from yahoo...just optimize your website for yahoo instead of google
