I have a directory website using wordpress, and I spent time this morning uploading lots of listings. It's a nationwide directory of divorce lawyers, so there are a lot of listings. My page load times are TERRIBLE! I'm not sure if its because I'm using wordpress, if my servers or hosting sucks, or maybe its the premium plugin that I'm using??? I'm trying to figure out why page load times are so slow, and what can I do to improve vastly? Here's a link to one of my category pages divorceindex.net/attorney/california Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
May in you site load show due to JS or or any loop was continually running. If you want then direct contact to me at Skype/gtalk: ashishkg17
First of All check the image sizes of all the image resources, and make them as smaller as possible without compromising on the quality. Then try removing the js and heavy css files and adding them one by one, while checking the page load time. I hope, you'll be able to identify the problem this way.
Not exactly sure what they are called, but there are some online tools available, which shows exactly in a timeline how long it takes before every element of your website is loaded. I tried to Google it, but I couldn't find it. However one quick tip: try to make the size of the logo smaller, 64 kb is quite large for a logo that simple.
Hi. We have checked divorceindex.net/attorney/california and it looks like: 1. Large drop-down list element (near green "GO" button) can slow down "visual" page load speed. I.e. it has large amount of items, and while they are loading, you (visitor) don't see any changes on the page. So it might be better to re-organize this navigation element or the way it's being filled with data. 2. We have noticed that logo image can load quite slow sometimes. While image size is not that big. That could mean some server (hosting) side issues. 3. Page load speed can significantly differ from time to time. That also could mean some server/hosting side issues. So at least 2 last items from the list above don't look like a client side (i.e. javascript/image size/browser/PC etc.) issue, and we would recommend to contact your hosting provider with this problem first of all. If you would like to check, then we could create a temporary account for you on our server, so you can upload the same data there and test the load speed.
I would check with your host. Is this on a shared or VPS account? I don't think that it is your file sizes that are slowing it down.
You can try this service to see exactly what is loading and how long each takes: http://www.uptrends.com/aspx/free-html-site-page-load-check-tool.aspx
Download the yslow Addon for Firefox. I don't have a link sorry as I'm writing this on my iPad. It's good for finding out why your site is loading slow. Unless it's your server issue then yslow won't help, lol.
Due to following reasons page load time does slow: 1. Big size of image 2. Use of heavy Flash and JS 3. Use of any continue loop etc. I think you should try "the Page Speed browser add-on (firefox only)" to improve in page loading time.
