Why are most political comedians liberal leaning?

I've noticed that I can't think of any conservative/Republican comedians. Why are there so few, if any?

Do Democrats and other liberal folks have a better sense of humor?

 

Hmm, good question. Perhaps it has to do with the fact most television media leans liberal, so they would hire comedians that fit their ideology? Even then, I find people like Colbert and Stewart are able to attack both Republicans and Democrats, so I see no reason a conservative comedian would not be able to do the same thing. Interesting..

 

Because conservatism today is a rather stark and myopic view of the world. Everyone is out to get us, people cannot be trusted, we gotta clutch what is ours in a clenched fist, we have to righteously project goodness with power.

Don't get me wrong, liberals usually have bleeding hearts, although they bleed with someone else's blood. But it is hard to make fun of people who claim to want to help the poor and better society.

Keith Olbermann has pretty much made a career of mocking Bill O'Reilly, and rightfully so. O'Reilly's humor is crude and condescending. Olbermann is mocking and critical.

 

Dennis Miller is the only one I can think of.

 

If a dem gets into the white house...look for a shift. Comedians always go after the public figures.

It's because the attitude of the right doesnt allow them to be funny. Their act is to pretend everyone is going to die from "terror". That kind of position doesn't open many gaps that can be filled with a joke.

The more conservative one is...the less they have a sense of humor.

On the other hand....the more conservative one is...the likelier you'll hear them on talk radio. But do any of them have a sense of humor?

 

Aw, c'mon, guys. Plenty of dullards and plenty of wits everywhere, from all persuasions.

 

If you don't tend to be real thoughtful person you aren't going to be much of a comedian (or do real well in any other kind of creative endeavor: songwriting, art...) Conservatives don't tend to give a lot of thought to things. They are more into "faith" than thinking. They aren't real good at seeing other people's points of view. I'm only being slightly factitious here. I think if you look throughout the history of the arts (and yes I consider comedy to be an art) you'll see it's dominated by liberal minded folks. I'm sure other fields are dominated by conservative thinkers... You know... like banking or preaching.

***note I'm talking about conservative/liberal in relation to social biz more so than economics. Libertarians are called conservatives by some and liberals by others... for the sake of what I'm talking about I would call them liberal.***

 

I don't agree. There are some incredibly deep thinkers with a conservative viewpoint, and many facile thinkers with a liberal ideology.

 

Democrats & Republicans are opposites..

Not really. They both abuse the power of state against the people. The Dems for Welfarism, the GOP for Warfarism.

Both parties are morally bankrupt.

I can name them I never said dems or repubs were smart. neither one of them are because if they were. they would know to focus on us lil peons other than the other ppl who have no relavence to us except to give us certain things..
