Why are computers still so expansive?

Why are computers still so expensive? $1000 still for a good system. At this point the price shoudl be $100 like a TV set. Cmon the technology is common. But blame microsoft for chargin 200 for windows and intel and other stupid manufacturers who charge too much for thier components.

So what? A system with the performance of a $1000 System would have been way over 10.000 bucks just a few years ago. If you want $100, buy a 486 from eBay.

for half that price you could probally build yourself a decent 1, i spent around $600 and got a 3.2P4 (HT), 1gb DDR2 ram, plus the normal stuf like HD CD/DVD drive plus a few other gadgets that i dont really use.

You really don't have a clue what goes into making a "simple" component like a hard drive or a CPU do you?

    LOL, are you serious...

    Wow thanks for the laugh..

The systems keep getting better and better and better, yet the ticket prices keep coming down. They are a fraction of the cost that they were years ago...

TV's top of the line for $100?..where is this at..

    LOL...to damn funny...seriously.

I just picked up 2 nice ass dell notebooks for a song compared to what I paid for notebooks 5 years ago..No complaints here on prices. Of course cheaper is always better, but be realistic and get off the crack rocks..

I think you have this all wrong.

Computers are getting cheaper. They are getting alot cheaper in that you are paying roughly the same price now to what you would have been paying for a sh_t and slow computer about a year or so ago.

If you brought a top quality computer today, then guarantee that you are most likely to pick that same computer up for about half the price in about 6 months - a years time.

Computers are something that looses their value quickly.

The definition of a good system increase every year, A few years ago Athlon XP 2000 with 256mb ram was very good system that people could pay more than 1000$ Today, you obviously want to have Athlon 64 3400 with 1024 MB RAM for the same price. But you don't need that if you don't use applications or games that require an enormous amount of float calculations. If you are just going to use it for internet, you can use a Pentium2 300mhz with 128mb RAM. It will not be significant slower for those and a lot other tasks.

And I have to agree with the rest, you are clueless :)

Its not about computers being expensive. Its about new technology coming with a premium price. All new tech has a premium price when it is first released and a year later you will probably find it for half what is cost on release. If you WANT to build a PC with the newest high end video card, lots of RAM and the fastest processor available, yes, it will be relatively expensive. The question is do you NEED a high end PC? If not a cheap PC with last years tech will work just as good.

How I see it when buying a computer is that you shouldn't really worry to much about the cost. I prefer to buy a computer that is $2,000 and is very fast than buying a computer for $300 that crashes and can't handle having many applications open including paintshop pro and other applications.

If you need a computer to operate a business then you should be looking more towards the specs rather than the cost.
