Why are captchas so friggin' hard to read?

Why do they make Captchas (security code verifications) so freakin hard to read? I have to reload the page 5 times to finally get a readable word! A robot won't be able to read any text, so why not just write it clearly so at least humans can understand it?

 

I have experienced that. Maybe they are just afraid of the spammers.

 

We have to make it hard to read because robots are ABLE read them. (I forgot the website url, it has a list of captchas that were broken, and a list of weaknesses of popular captchas software/website)

 

Because that's the way it should be. hehe. lol

 

so that they would know if your a real human or a robot that is handling captcha's so that's why some times they made the letters hard to read before you input it and submit.

 

I'm using Bigochapta, quite like that one. Never had to reload a new one to read it.
