Why Apple really better than Microsoft? Smart answers here please, ladies and gentlemen, none of the "because it is, LOL!". What makes Apple the company it is today and what is Microsoft doing to "bad " and Apple to "good"? All answers I've ever heard on the internet were Apple and Microsoft fan boys screaming in all caps to try to gain in volume rather than reason.

Marketing, and OSX. After using Windows for 10 years, linux for 5 years, OSX was hands down the most user friendly. It's easy to use and it's trouble free. On the top of that, Apple computers look frigging good :)

The custommer service is very good at Apple, and they makes software for their hardware! At Microsoft, they make Windows, so that it can run on (almost) any computer. So you are always sure that the system (Mac OS) is fully compatible with the computer (iMac, MacBook, ...)

Apple released their very popular products, such as iPhone, iPod, iPad, all of these products are very successful.

Apple is more creative. If you ever use APPLE after being a microsoft user you will immidiatly notice the difference. Apple does well in so many fields of technology, they give you things you should get for FREE where as MS charges money.

Just a few minutes ago, Apple released it's quarterly earnings report. This from Investors Business Daily:
Apple is the second largest company in the world, behind only Exxon. Needless to say, Apple's share price skyrocketed in after hours trading.

I've used Windows for all my life, until 2 years ago. I just got tired that no anti-virus program in the world could guard me. I still ended up re-installing windows at least once a year. Windows has really sucked for a really long time. Computer hangups, unreasonable fatal errors for no reason and no explanation. I could actually sit here and try remembering all the crap, but I'll better just write my thoughts now.
I have now used Linux Ubuntu for 2-3 years now ( I did about 18 months of dual-boot, when I needed windows, because there was no Ubuntu solution ). Ubuntu kicks ass. It is Unix Based (same as Mac) and the one of the awesome features, is that, when you don't use a process, it simply sleeps, meaning it doesn't eat up your resources, where in Windows you could die if you would try opening 5 simple programs in an older PC (I have one now about the same power as the one I'm using right now with linux).
Also, I have honestly never seen a computer on which Ubuntu can't launch internet out of the box. If the computer has a net card, no drivers required. Tons of stuff works out of the box. I even managed to launch Inuos4 Pen tablet out of the box, with no drivers (drivers required for mac and windows). Of course, Linux has a downside. Program support and sometimes lack of drivers (or to say, lack of drivers working 100% properly)
I think the main reason for trouble with Windows and Linux is the hardware quantity clutter. 100's of different processors, RAMs, net cards, video cards. All that amount of hardware, and a lot of that hardware needs drivers. So you end up installing 100 drivers. Which of course is diskspace and who knows what on Windows. Mac on the other hand, offer MACs and only. If you buy a mac from apple, that is what you get. Everything works and nothing is going to break down for no reason. It just works and it doesn't just break for no actual reason.
I am actually leaving linux in a few days, for my new Mac. And I chose mac, because I simply need the Adobe Pack and I don't want windows, besides Mac has a really awesome Marketing strategy (they present what they have - Quality), at first I was confused with the Mac Interface, but as soon as you get used to it, you can't go back to Windows :) and well, mac is a feeling :)

    Here's a couple things...

Apple is inventing new things... Microsoft only copies what others have done/thought of.
    - Apple built a digital music player everyone wanted (iPod), Microsoft tried to copy it years later with the Zune.
    - iOS is a very good mobile operating system, Windows Mobile is not (even Microsoft has said they are about 2 years behind).
    - Apple came out with the iPad and sent Windows-based tablet manufacturers back to the drawing board along with Microsoft for the operating system. That put them a year or two behind.

The best product Microsoft has done recently ist he Xbox (but again, more or less copied the Playstation).
Microsoft is trying to copy Google with it's search engine and online office products (it's failing).
Microsoft tried to copy Adobe Flash with it's Silverlight plug-in... also a utter failure.

Not only that, the quality of Apple products (both software and hardware) is very nice when compared to Windows/PC based products. There is always a market for quality.

Think about it... what has Microsoft done that anyone even WANTED to copy? All I see if Microsoft trying to copy everyone else, and they aren't even improving on stuff. They copy and usually whatever they do is worse than what they are copying.

    Microsoft has no imagination what-so-ever.

Why then, is Microsoft so successful? Is it because people are just used to their products?

They are good at marketing. If they can make people believe they need their products, they will sell them.

Microsoft uses it's huge marketing engine to convince people to buy their products. Apple on the other hand has people *wanting* to buy their products simply because they are good products.

Microsoft spends insane amounts of money for marketing...

$100M to market Bing when it first came out (and the reality is Bing was nothing more than a renamed MSN search engine).

$400M to market Windows Phone 7. About 1.5M phones were sold, so Microsoft spent $267 in marketing for EACH PHONE SOLD.

$100M marketing budget for Xbox 360 launch.

$500M marketing budget for Kinect (nothing more than an Xbox peripheral).

Microsoft is a great marketing company... not so good at software or hardware though. :) Thankfully, their marketing divisions can carry them. heh

They are two very different companies, it's kind of like saying Manchester United are better than the New York Yankees. But since they are both involved in technology and hence innovation, Apple tend to really make people want one of their products; Microsoft tend to get customers by people not knowing better and abusing their market power.

Every firm has it own specialty as we are talking about both entities of this era, apple got some awesome features in "Apple Ipod", and Microsoft has the best operating system in the world called "Microsoft Windows". as far as i concern i can't assume apple over microsoft as a triumphant.

I switched to all Apple March 2010 after only ever using Windows. Would have to say I am never going back to Windows. Apple do an elegant product that just works. They think of the little things that Microsoft do not.

Whenever anyone says this, it's proof they know nothing about how operating systems work.
And more proof they know nothing about finance.

the only reason you cant get viruses on mac is because they lock down there whole OS so you have to have programs passed by apple before they can be released and virus's only exist so you buy anti-virus software, these anti virus companies need to make money somehow. also because apple products are basically locked to only "compatible" hardware means they can charge any price knowing that the consumer will still buy it for the set price and wont be able to get a batter deal anywhere else, also microsoft helped out apple in the beginning so apple couldnt exist without microsoft

Niether are better than the other, both are in different markets.

Apple macs are more creative and run things like video editing and graphics things a lot better (surprisingly not games though), Microsoft are Gaming, Office and developers a much broader market place so things can be cheaper.

Look at a mac with high specs and then look for a PC with the same spec and you will find the PC's are around £1000 cheaper, also microsoft are big in games with XBOX 360, Microsoft also have Bing, etc etc.

two completely different companies... So, how long is that string? :)
