Why and how to make a backup DNS?

I'm not sure if I clearly understand what is a backup DNS, but imo its just a backup host if ever your primary host is down, right?
If this is it, Hhw can I put a backup DNS to my website? Is it just by going in the registrar website and inputing the DNS of my backup host after the DNS of my primary host?

    please advise me!

You have to have a minimum of 2 DNS servers for a domain (it's a requirement with most registrars/TLDs though I'm not sure if it is true for all). You may already have 2 for your domain. A whois lookup should be able to tell you.

If you don't, then whoever is currently hosting your DNS should provide one.

    Hello,

two dns servers are very important.

I think it's the most important in email servers. When all dns servers are down and emailserver tries to send a email and cannot resolve domain to IP address of recipient, it immediately returns email to its sender. If it can resolve it, it will try to deliver email multiple times.

Uff, I hope you understand me ;)

And yes, both dns servers should be on any other links.

    Hello,

You want to have multiple DNS servers and if possible have them hosted on different networks or possibly better but more complicated hosted by different ISP's and/or yourself. If you DNS goes down, your web site and e-mail will stop working.

You could probably do a DNS cluster pretty cheap. I personally run a cPanel DNS Only cluster, it's really easy to setup, and it works good. You could probably use two cheap VPS's to create a cluster.
