Hello I own an ipod blog which used to be dropped and i picked it up. I've owned it for about 2 months now and last month I recieved about 8,000 UV.

Does anyone know why I'm still not in Google, and how i could get 'un-sandboxed'?

Well being indexed has nothing to do with the sandbox. You probably just need more links to get indexed.

The sandbox is sort of like a filter to prevent new sites from ranking quickly for competitive terms/keywords until the site gains enough age and trust. The average length of the sandbox is about a year. Sites that have experienced a lesser amount of time in the sandbox is usually in less competitive niches. If your site is about ipod (which I believe is still competitive) then your site still have quite a bit of time to be in Google sandbox.

Once out of the sandbox, how long will it take to rank for the competitive keywords, given i started all teh SEO proecsses, including substantial link building with my target anchor texts, from day 1? eg. let's say it takes me 12 months to get out of sandbox, so can i expect to see good rankings in 16 months, for example?

Also, whats the indicator to show i am out of the sandbox?

I read about sandbox here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=71522

and it said depending on the competitiveness of your keyword, it may takes more than 7 months..according to his experiences..

I don't have this experience because I always targetted the low competitive keywords

I open up a new worldpress blog, with one blog posting on hundred blogs and 3 outgoing links from my main page PR5, the blog was in 5 days in the google index.
The sandbox have nothing to do with your listening in the google index, this is more about your position in ranking for search results. You cant get the best position with a new page if your compeditors have old pages with google trust.

What you can do, you have to get backlinks for your blog, do some article submission, directory submission, use your forum signature, so you get backlinks for your blog.

One tip, it is an old one but still: "Quality before quantity" Don't submit your site to each link directory in the world, just make sure that google, yahoo, dmoz and alexa know about you that is enough, the rest will find you. Don't submit your url to so-called "link-farms". Do a search of your niche+blog and find a couple you like and comment on these one leaving your url discreetly in the comment form, not in the comment itself (check for no-follow ;-) Or even better get a friend to write a relevant post about your site. The more back links you have, the more likely your site will be indexed.

IHMO most of the elements of the Sandbox are a myth.

If you want to start ranking better get a few really strong links from relevant sites. Spend your time talking with webmasters of strong, similar sites to try and build business relationships / strong links rather than going for link volume. You will find that a few strong links will make a huge difference.
