Hi- I've got a blog dealing with an, um, surgical procedure (myvasectomyreversal.com). I expected it to show geo-targeted ads, but that doesn't appear to be happenning. I wonder if I put more ad units in, if I'll start seeing some geo-targeted ads. Anyone care to comment?
Not target here, I'm afraid Have you double check the help section to see how targeting works? maybe a special value to maket them detect the country automatically
Thanks Mystique. I actually did check AdSense help, but found little info on geo-targeting. I was just surprised that I didn't see regional fertility centers advertising.
Probably because advertisers targeting nationally are paying more. They are not going to show a US regional ad that pays less instead of an ad that targets nationally and pays more. Geotargeting refers to targeting on a country level (ie. targeting Canadians and Americans) as well as a regional level (rargeting those in New York City or Toronto). And lastly, you will only see ads for your region. Those in other regional geotargeted areas might see different ads because those specific advertisers targeting that region happen to pay more than the group of advertisers targeting nationally. You would have to use regional-specific proxies to check the ads for all the various regional areas to see them.
Thanks Jenstar. That answers my question. And I surmise that with more units, I might see some of those regional ads start showing up.
how exactly do you get geo targeted? i read a post on another forum about that but had no idea how. he said something about getting ips and learning what country its from and channeling each country
I believe that, for the most part, it happens automatically. Google serves up country-appropriate ads. It sounds like there may be tweaks that someone more tech savvy than me could do. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.
When i go to your ads it does serve me up some .co.uk stuff so it does seem to be geo-targeting to some degree. Your correct in assuming that google does it automatically.
