When I first began adwords, I simply used keywords that were provided by by the affiliate resources section of a product I would promote. I found this to be somewhat of a lazy undertaking as I found that the keyword bids were not low enough to give me a favorable return on investment. So I found some long-tail keywords and keywords with not as much competition in my latest campaign. The keyword tool provided by google showed by selected keywords bidding at an estimate of $0.05 per click....so I thought great, let me load up my campaign with all these cheap keywords and get cracking... Except now I find that I am getting very few page impressions (I am not even talking about clicks, I am getting ZERO of those, but just actual instances where my ad even appears). I tried raising my daily budget..... not much change, still no clicks...I raised the keyword bids up little by little.....still not much change, maybe slightly more page impressions.... Does anyone know whats going on?? Is Google trying to screw me? Am I doing something wrong? Am I not understanding something? I mean when I first started my keyword campaigns I had no trouble getting impressions and clicks (and not making money! lol)...but now when I put in more work and try to be smarter with my adwords spending, its not even working... please help...thank you all in advance...
Long tails usually don't get as much search volume - did you check with the keyword tool how often they get searched for in a month? Raising your bid or budget won't make any difference if nobody is searching for your keywords.
For a Long Tail keyword strategy it often is only truely effective if you have thousands of these keywords active. The majority will generate only a few clicks, but overall, clicks can add up. Individually they arent worth much though.
Thank you both for the input. These keywords definitely arent getting as much search volume so I knew I had to put in a large amount. I guess I underestimated the amount of keywords I need to put in order for it to add up... back to the drawing board...thanks again
Hi Stu, One other thing in addition to the good points above...how are your quality scores for the terms you're bidding on? Make sure you get them higher. It's always important, but given that long tail keywords already have so few searches, it's even more important that you're positioned to take advantage of a large share of the possible ad impressions. Good luck!
There are many steps to get your quality score up. Here are some 1. Domain name. The domain name needs to be relevant in some way to at least some of your keywords. The main ones would suffice. 2. Domain name ++ - As I call it. This can be hard to set up but also make sure to optimize sub domains and the .html part to go with your keywords. When setting up the longtails group them by similarity within your campaigns. So when you make the domain you can use the same words in your phrases. 3. Always include in your copy a spot in the footer. Call it keywords and include any keywords you are targeting with that page. 4. When building all these pages interlink them. Even if it is duplicate content it will help. 5. No private who is, I have heard this helps in quality score. That is just some ideas. Plenty more.
Is it possible to CALL to Google Adwords support? I've tried to find some phone number, but couldn't. Help me please. Is it really possible to CALL them?
