Hi, Why am I I losing all formatting when copy and pasting from word2007 to wordress? I lose indentations and my spacing changes. Is there an alternate WYSIWYG that people use that's different than the standard one? Thanks in advance. JB
Because you can't copy from MS Word into the Wordpress post editor...it will mess up every time. They don't code the same. You have to paste in plain text or, you could try pasting as HTML, but that doesn't always work either. If you need more functionality in the Wordpress Post Editor you can try search for "WYSIWYG" plug ins and see which ones have the extra functions you are looking for.
I had a feeling from the very start that I should have went with Joomla. WP has been such a waste of time.
It's not Wordpress, you are trying to use 2 conflicting pieces of software to format your text. That's not going to work no matter what. The post editor in Wordpress gives all the functions that can be read by browsers and the basic functions of every text editor. Unfortunately Wordpress is not a Microsoft product. I'm sure that you can copy and paste from MS Word to MSN Spaces or what ever their blogging thing is. Or if it is that inconvenient then just use Joomla, but you can't do it with that either: Source: http://writenowdesign.com//images/joomla-how-to-tips/Joomla%20Help%20Procedures-1-08.html The problem is with MS Word.
Well the editor in WP doesn't even allow basic formatting options such as single spacing your content. I had no idea that it was that primitive. There's an option that says "import from Word" so am I crazy to think that it would keep the formatting in tact? I used Joomla a few years back and I remember the WYSIWIG being much more robust, but for a specific project that I have the best theme I could find was based on WP so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Oh well. Thanks for all of your help.
No you are not crazy. Personally I have never used it. I don't see the point of writing on one platform, just to copy onto another when I can just write on the source. It's extra work. You want single spacing, switch to HTML and remove the spaces or copy from Notepad in HTML. No matter how you slice it, a Wordpress, or Joomla post is not going to format like a MS word Document. Every option is not even readable by your readers browsers. It's not the same as publishing on paper. You can add to the WYSIWYG how ever you wish, there are many, many text editor plug ins that enhance the functionality of the Wordpress post editor. Like this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fckeditor-for-wordpress-plugin/ I've never had a problem or taken a lot of time to format my posts, and at times I post some really involved pieces, editable wiki's, all kinds of media and so forth. You just have to know how to use the tools. Wordpress is only limited by the experience of the user.
My client sends me content bolded, indented and spaced the way he wants it, and he sends it to me in MS Word. So you're right its extra work for me to have to retype and reformat it in wordpress. Notepad zaps all the formatting and so does the html option. I'll try out the editor you sent me though. Thx again.
I know where you are coming from, one of my sites gets pre-written press and promotions in every format imaginable. What I have been doing is using Open Office to open them and then stripping the formatting out with Notepad and pasting into the post editor. The problem that I find is that the text formatting will show up differently when applied to the web...so many submissions have certain text too small or too large and I have to redo them anyway, especially the stuff that comes from overseas, not to mention the difference in spell checks..they way they spell certain words that come up as misspelled on my spell check. I'll bet that someone has a solution to go straight from Word to the post editor, I have just always wanted to format the post myself..but I guess it's different if you are doing it on someone's blog for them. If you find any other solutions that work, please keep me posted here, I'd be interested to know.
