Some people might try to get link back from stats or counter from your site

I've just discovered the same problem on my site (it was an online pharmacy too).

    I'm guessing it's hotlinking.

Its pretty much as rcj662 says, they do it in the hope that your server logs or some kind of web stats analyser output is stored online. Thus giving them a backlink.

Also some websites automaticly display sites that refer them like a blog trackback.

As long as you dont have your logs online or your web stats online you arent helping them, its just a pain filtering them out.

It's 100% referrer spam. When webmasters see so much "traffic" coming from a page, they check it out. That's how fillbest is generating traffic. They are in my logs as well.

Just make sure your antivirus is updated. I see a lot of referrer spam from sites with IE exploits...

It's not hotlinking, it's refferer spam. Everyobdy that checks their logs gets to deal with it.

you can download and install a plug-in called as 'Akismet'.
It will block all the spams coming to your site.

akismet only stops spam comments from being posted, this will not stop referrer spam.
