why am i getting all public service ads all of a sudden? last couple of days noticed that my revenue had fallen from adsense. i go to check my site and i see that most of the ads showing are public service ads! why this change all of a sudden when things were fine these past many months.

You need to share your URL. My guess is either 1) you have been sand boxed 2) you have had so much traffic and clicks you have exhausted your advertisers budgets.

Normally this happens with pages from which the subject cannot be decided, but if you had ads before this would not be the case.

The other times I see them is on pages that are penalized, meaning they are un-cached for some reason.

Are your pages still cached and/or have PR?

Have you changed your content at all? Added words like "sex", "xxx", "bomb", "porn", etc..

    this happens if:

    1. your page is panelized
    2. google is not able to decide what is your page about i.e. cant determine right keywords
    3. your site is in flash with no/little text
    4. some problem with indexing of your site ( it happens sometimes, when googlebot crawls your page and encounter some problems with indexing, so it cant index your page properly)
    5. you used some not so good keywords
    6. you are unfortunate/unlucky (just kidding)
and if you want accurate info then please ask Google about it and/or provide us URL of your page

I checked out your site quickly and did not see any PSAs appearing, but you should visit the AdSense support page entry on PSAs:

    http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=10035.

This page should help you troubleshoot the issue. If you continue to see PSAs, contact and provide specific URLs on which these ads appear.

I'm getting this too on my home page only. My inner article pages are getting real ads fine. However, I'm only seeing an actual PSA some of the time. For my left 120x600 skyscraper I'm mostly seeting large bold strings of ??????, sometimes with strange words like "Cleopatra" embedded in them, with "Googel ?????" at the bottom of the ad. Huh? And for my other 160x600 right-side skyscraper I'm mostly just seeing a large blank spot.

One thought: I recently added the adsense google_ad_section blocks to my pages. I blocked out my left nav and right nav with "ignore" and highlighted the middle section as relevant. I could see how this might temporarily confuse the adsense engine, but what's up with the ???????? gibberish in place of an ad?
