Agreed even .edu and .gov sites lost 1 PR level ... yet they think someone is nutz when they are told this ... I seen it myself on www.sleekdirectory.com in the inner PR stats and when i reset directory spys page rank update tool as it shows the before and after... thx malcolm
I'll have to agree that your post is pretty much on target. Google has no prob with sites wanting to be aggressive with promotion. However, It looks to me that google is using some sites as bait to find out which high powered sites are selling pr, and the only way to find out is to go ahead and let the site gain the pr that would normally be passed on to a site. Once google sees that these sites are the ones responsible for passing off pr by selling links I would be willing to bet that those sites will lose their pr value, maybe a drop by 1 or they may not be able to pass any page rank at all. The truth is (and I do not mean to put alive on the spot) that alive does not need to buy high pr links, if chris just kept doing what he has been doing from the jump then my guess is that the site would have never dropped. With so much buzz going around about alive you can bet that google is watching the site with a fine tooth comb, and since bigweblinks is trying the same thing you can pretty much expect a drop to that site as well along with a few others. All that is just theroy of course, the real answer maybe that since so many other sites try to follow alive by getting links from the same location this only hurts all the sites that have a listing there, some of you may have forgot about the power of outbounds and how important that is when it comes to how much pr value is being passed from one site to another. Just because someone comes across a pr8 link and you find their site listed there does not mean that you need to buy one as well, unless you are doing it on purpose. Some people do this only to show that they have high pr links pointing to their site, well that is great but you are also killing my future pr along with yours as well so good luck. Ok, maybe I am just rambling now, but my point is this, alive is a very high powered directory which needs to answer to no one, not even google. A well promoted site in the end will still out perform any other site out there regardless of it's page rank. May the serps and pr be with you all.
Very well said Banless... I as well noticed the "copycat directory owners" that had to be listed everywhere dump and alive as well as a few others advertised so as not to be left behind.... and spent many thousands with no real true Pr accomplishments this round... owww well such is life thx malcolm
As I have said since it happened, I believe it was a glitch. An unfortunate glitch, but a glitch none-the-less. As I see things, it is pretty much impossible for it to be legitimately PR6. If anything, I expected it to move to 8. As others have noted, many of the strong sites dropped for some reason, I suspect a lot of them were because of the same glitch. We'll see what happens next time around. In the meantime, for those looking to get their PR7-fix, feel free to check out Big Web Links Bidding Web Directory for permanent listings.
I suggest using Alexa's... and their toolbar. Suggest people that use Alive directory to use that, and that way, getting Alexa's increase (by visits) the PR will increase. (it's offsubject? ) Btw, Google's using Dmoz directory, u know that?

It was a peculiar update alright, eBusiness Directory stayed at PR5, alot of big sites dropped PR but I think all the hard work will be vindicated in the next update.
Yaa lets hope google does not start doing as what matt cutts been talking about. It will become a real mess than.
I think Alive's PageRank went down because Google's new algorithm's noticed quite a few [thousand] black hat SEO techniques that were used to gain links to the site.
I know you're just kidding, but that's not the kind of thing to say. Some people might not realize you're kidding. Alive Directory does not, of course, use any black hat or trick techniques.
Several good points from Banless, way to use your noodle my friend. I'll quote him and let you all read it again, he makes total sense. I feel that Cutts was right about those buying links and there are no easier ones to spot than site wide links. Just for the record, I'm sure google considers anybody even speaking of how to rank well and how (or why) PR does what it does to be black hat so you guys can stop acting all surprised. Also, common sense tells you that the more outbound links you have the more PR is bled from your site. So Chris, how many new links have you added in the past 3 months?
As long as there is way to see other peoples links then matt cutts and the google team will put this into effect. The problem is that people talk to much, some on this forum are always pointing out that this and that site has x amount of pr links, that in it self is enough to draw a flag on a directory. Don't get me wrong I am not down playing pr, I still believe that high pr is a major factor for directory sales, just not the only factor. And I still encourage people to keep doing what they are doing if they feel it is working for them. Just don't be upset if it does not work out for you.
hhehehehehh yes ok if ya say so google cant stop the flow of juice thats why matt came out and humbly requested that we stop this at once and start using "no follow" Sorry man i cant do it .....im addicted to the serps. thx malcolm
I do my best, owning a few SEO companies I try to help out and steer the bottom dwellers upwards when I get a few to spare. Spammy self promotion, watch out, ill be getting those PR7 next round. Theres a good reason why google has why google has http://directory.google.com/ and updates asap as a site is added, now AOL is going down the drain, what do u think will happen to dmoz? Go read up on some books.
