What I'm really ticked about is for those who may have used Debit Visa's, it is almost impossible to do a chargeback when money is taken directly out of your checking/savings account. WHT this has caused some serious issues, stop storing everyone's credit card since 2006....unbelievable.

The good news is that if you CC is used frauduently, then your CC company will cover this. You will not be made to repay monies should your card be the subject of online fraud.

Actually, even if it's a debit card. I had mine hacked a couple of years ago and the bank put all the money back. If you lose your card and fail to report it in 48 hours you're only responsible for, I think, $50.

This hacker scum is to be hunted down and punished. They have destroyed a vibrant community and a viable business.

But you guys over at WHT have your own responsibility to take for the fact that you knew that this subsystem stored card numbers and CVC codes in the the clear.

This is a flagrant PCI DSS (as well as common sense security) violation.

You should have told customers 2 weeks ago to cancel their cards, etc.. Then you would have taken the hit up front and trust would return.

Now people will not believe you. I am sorry about this as I like the WHT community and I personally will be back to contribute when things are back again.

But you have yourselves through your lack of actions broken the back of trust of your paying members.

The fish rots from the head, in this case the head should be removed and Dennis fired.

    Dennis isn't the head.

Troy is the head, http://www.inetinteractive.com/about/team/, and he's got plenty of reasons to be mad.

Oh hell, this stuff just happens all the time :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Be careful what you say here and elsewhere You will get banned for things you do that are not even on WHT.

Watching Dennis go downhill so fast is like watching a bowling ball on the streets of San Francisco.

Whoopie.. In the 9 years I've been there, I've yet to get any useful business or contacts out of it. I've participated to be helpful, or get help.

99.9% of the people there are sellers. In reality most of the people that are buying or selling are no different than the clutter found at DP.

The only real decent thing about WHT which I have continually applauded here and elsewhere as been their intelligent rules and good moderation. That's something that's always been sorely lacking here in BST.

At the end of the day, I cannot say that I am at all worried about being banned. I've already had my password reset 3 times, due to this issue I can only assume.

My membership renewal came up right around the time the db was hacked. Never even saw a renewal notice. Maybe that's another glitch? I just happened to log in one day after being advised by one of my employees about the current situation only to find that all hell broke loose.

At this point, again, I see no way to recover from this. Outside of starting again, I cannot see how anyone could put any faith in WHT as it once was, and see no sense in participating until things are fully brought to the forefront.

I hear the same people clammering to their defense again claiming that this is an "isolated incident", or "this stuff happens all the time", or "hey, this is the internet", or "everyone gets hacked".

Guys, this is not some random free internet forum like DP. Its membership based and advertiser driven. Its a business. A large one at that. These guys run several forums, not just WHT. They are in the business of doing just that.

The advertising dollars they command are HUGE, and pale by comparison at these little SEO forums that spew adsense ads at people.

If this were some fly by night or a completely free forum run by some one man show like most of the webmaster centric community is, it would be different.

In WHT's case, they are a business in the the business of running forums, managing them, and securing advertising dollars to make a profit. They are in the business of commanding respect and trust from their end users, and their advertisers. They've lost both.

This is a big fuck up pure and simple. To take this laid back attitude, and try to some how minimize this "fuck up" is what has me annoyed more than the fuck up itself. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of those coming to WHT's defense have no clue just who WHT really is, much less why so many out there are truly angered and do not make light of this situation.

Why is Dennis to blame for this??

He didnt know this was gonna happen,it WAS NOT an inside job or anything,so how can you sit there and be mad at the staff of WHT,they had nothing to do with this!

Well it was not the hacker that illegally stored the CCV and it was not the hacker that made it so that when a customer removed his CC details drom the database, wht intentionally did not delete them but only marked them as removed.

I feel horrible for those affected, but thank goodness it happened so that people would be aware of the games INET and WHT play with peoples sensitive data.

Absolutely pathetic of WHT to be hacked like this.

Im extremely pissed off. WebHostingTalk.com has acted like it has been god over the hosting community " market ", now its raped its users and now who has to pick the pieces? - The users, we have to phone our banks to tell them to cancel our cards.

    WHT - Big role model.

In all honesty, as a server security specialist. Im laughing at the way WHT got hacked, WHT thinks they are above a lot of there users - yet there own users hacked the db and stole WHT's failing heart.

    Really, Really sad.

iNet interactive - how much have you paid your sysadmin? because it looks like he sold WHT out.

    ;)

    Hold the f*** up.

The WHT staff have nothing to do with this?

Ok, so my personal information has been breached due to whom?

It was breached due to WHT Staff's lack of security within there server systems, allowing a breach of a nature that allowed the attacker to gain direct access to a DB. This is a failure of security implementation if the attacker got to the DB's this quickly.

So, think again when you say WHT staff are not responsible, because they ARE.

    Example;

If i dont secure a server properly for a client - The server gets hacked - I take responsibility.

End of story, WHT Staff are responsible.
