Who's using YPN Ad Targeting?

Of those who are successful with YPN, are you using Ad Targeting where you select categories of ads, or are you depending on context-relevant ads to appear? Which is better for you?

If you are using Ad Targeting, are YPN's categories suitable for you site/pages? If you have multiple pages using Ad Targeting, do the same ads show up on every page? Are the ads relevant to your site?

On most of my sites the ad targetting worked terribly. On one site it works quite well, and not even in a category I would have thought was relevent. Overall I think the targetting system needs a lot of work.

I agree. Since this is a beta program and Yahoo seems to want helpful suggestions and comments, I sent them a note about three weeks ago suggesting that they expand their target categories and sub-categories. I even made some specific suggestions in my area of interest.

Result: A standard thank-you response, but no changes to the categories.

The targeting system seems to work especially fast at night, so last night I tried out different categories to see which would pay best (assuming that highest paying ads would occupy the top position...I don't know how often that is true).

The category I chose was not very relative, but neither was anything else I had been getting, so I decided to try it out for a day.

So far today, I have made more than I have in the last week or so...

thame: Does that mean you made $2 when you were making $1 before -- or was the difference and amounts more significant?

Their ad targetting has improved some IMHO ... but still needs work. Why they don't have a holiday/seasonal selection is puzzling to me - I've suggested it several times to them.

Ad targeting works for some but not for all and i also think it needs to improve. Even some people say they earn more money not doing at targeting.

Targeting seems to work for me. My site is retail. Maybe it just depends on your content. Who knows, YPN has me bewildered on some of this stuff.

I believe it really depends on the content and the Ad Targeting. The question is, do you make more money with Ad Targeting? We all know YPN has a way to go with contextual matching.

My experience has shown that some sites perform better with targeting on, some better with it off. For right now, it has been a toss up.

However, in some areas, you could use Targeting for your advantage. For example: say you had a travel site. You could check at the Overture Bid Tool to see how much ads are running for Airline Tickets v.s. Accomodations, and select the one with the higher pay out.

My rule of thumb is to let any changes I make to my campaign run at least seven days - unless, of course, what I've done makes a dramatic change to my earnings.

Lastly, everyone should be journaling. Make note of everything you change - and how things were set up initially. It pays to know - and you can't remember everything.

It works on one site for me, generating $25-35.00 clicks a few times! :D

It's nice to have a day where a web site averages around $1.00 per pageview!! ($1,000 CPM) :D

Rest of the sites arn't even close to that! :(
