I agree with Minstrel. One of the reasons I use DP is that I occasionally do business with other members.

I was in the habit of using someone's rep as a first step in figuring out if they would be good to deal with. The way things are though, someone could get enormous rep in general chat then crap all over you in a deal, then turn your rep red if you complain about it. I really don't like getting red rep because other people use it to judge trustworthiness in business dealings too. In a business thread the other day, a post said "people with red rep need not apply" or words to that effect. A bit of a worry if you're a good person to deal with from a business point of view but your rep is red because a few people didn't like one of your opinions.

I think it would either be a good idea to either disable rep and post count for "general chat" or have some sort of separate system to deal with "business rep".

Now for this one post, I've had one red rep which has reduced my rep by 14 points - a big gun didn't like what I said - and boy have I been "punished". So after building up a rep slowly, bit by bit, it's reduced drastically by one person. I'm afraid the whole system stinks.

The quickiest way to get more red is to post about it though.

Just in case people aren't straying from this thread, Shawn addressed the rep issue (as you were right along with many others explorer) so you should be able to trust it a bit more for the B/S/T section

Couldn't we use visible user notes as a way of leaving eBay like feedback in the b/s/t sections?

What is your mission here, TobyLee? You posted some snotty little comment earlier today which was deleted by the moderators. And here you are back again, same thread, same stupid type of comment.

If you want something useful to do, why not clean your bathroom or sort your socks or something?

25 1 line posts by TobyLee smells like someone just aching to post something in buy/sell/trade to me :p

As I've said previously, this is the best argument I know AGAINST minimum post counts - what you get is quantity but clearly not quality.

I used to think the minimum was useful, but I'm starting to agree. All you get are 25 really crappy posts like "i agree" "man that does suck" or "I use adsense too" that it seems counter productive.

Wait are we using TobyLee as an arguement against post count minimums or an arguement for abortion?

Would be easily solved not allowing reds to post in the B/S/T section...

Those kind of stupid one-liners usually turn anyone into a red ;)

I think that'd move the one-liners to general chat instead so they are immune to red-repping till they get 25 posts right? There's always a work around.

Not if posts over there don't count ;)

Would be good to do the same with the introduction board
