ARG!!!! Underground as in only registered members can see it, yes!! I stoped making a lot of posts in the game threads when I hit 5,000 posts. Wacko board + posts don't count in the PC = cure for PYPC posts, and all the intelligent members are happy!!!!

And all the daily new Wacko threads will have a nice home!!!! :D:D:D:D

There is never going to be a wacko forum, so please stop asking, it's getting rather annoying now.

    So is it

    1. you lack the intelligence or the gumption to think for yourself; or

    2. you haven't yet realized that you are being exploited by the people who start those threads?

I too am guilty of starting one (1) thread about Ninno, but it was an attempt to circulate a petition to have him committed, to wit I was quite surprised that he didn't sign it himself :p

Hodgeup - no offense, but I'd think you've been around DP long enough to know that every thread, no matter it's sincerity, message or intent, is subject to going astray to echo yfs1's comments ;)

I don't think that is acceptable though.

If we are talking about a thread going from being about 'web design rates' and moving to 'seo rates' it's not a massive issue.

But to have EVERY DAMN THREAD hijacked and turned into a circus ring of time wasting shit - I'll find another forum.

And a lot of other long-time-posters here feel the same - especially those who haven't posted in this thread.

Maybe Shawn can rig it so that no one can post until they read the ROE (rules of engagement) no different than you can't have a signature until you've surpassed ten (10) posts ... ?

I still think a far better idea is to discount all General Chat posts from both the post count AND the reputation system (if he insists on keeping the rep system at all).

That won't stop all people from posting crap but it will at least remove the prime incentive to do so for certain members.

I think there is a need for a general chat. Like a previous member mentioned. Sometimes you want to discuss things that are a little lighter and not related to the Web.

I do agree that people shouldn't post stupid thread just to increase post count.

But you can still say something meaningful in the general chat section. So, I say keep it up.

Again, apparently like a few others, missing the point.

I don't believe anyone anywhere has suggested doing away with General Chat. What is being discussed is reducing the number of totally crap threads in General Chat and doing something to remove some of the incentives for starting such threads.

Minstrel and others are not saying do away with the GC per se, rather, discount or devalue the post count and reps in the General Chat.

Where's that thread / petition ... I'll sign, even though it would reduce both my posts and my rep - it's not about big numbers and shiny pips, or at least it shouldn't be ...

Skinny, the issue is not about getting rid of general chat or not....that was never implied or suggested.

I don't know where people keep getting that from. Nobody ever said that general chat should go. Geez...read the entire thread.

Edit: Sorry, posted at the same time as Minstrel and Wrmineo, but people misunderstanding these posts is almost as annoying as all the pointless threads.

    This was a post earlier.

I was just making the point that the general chat forum or other forums here do have a useful purpose even if people are posting with meaningless replies.

i.e. the purpose is greater than people padding their post count.

I think that it is an issue and should be addressed. However, I think that it is the members that do this are a minority.

Sorry, the way I wrote that down implied that I thought the general chat was being deleted. That was not the case. . . however if it got that bad in a certain forum I'm sure the admin could consider eliminating a forum to ensure high post quality.

I know I'm getting in late on this one, but I agree. I think it's one of the reasons I don't visit nearly as often as I used to. The SEO content has taken backstage to the general chat area. Don't get me wrong, DP is a great forum, and it's the only one in which I participate, but Hodgedup has a good point. Just my 2cents.
