2 fingers was from the war with France, the English archers were killing the French at an alarming rate so the French cut off the archers 2 fingers if they caught them so they couldn't fire another arrow, the English started to sure the French 2 fingers from then one. and is still used today in the UK and well understood by the French, of it's meaning to this day.

That's a lesson they didn't teach us in my history class. Of couse I've always heard that Non-Americans know more about hisory than Americans.

I remember in grade school that holding those two fingers up was the sign for everyone to be quite and settle down (get peaceful). Both on the East Coast, West Coast and Mid-West.. I went to elementry school alot of different places.

And during the 60's and 70's and even today it is well known to mean "peace".
