As many of you many know, there's been BIG NEWS around over the last few days. Snapnames has admitted that their domain auctions have been rigged for many years now. If you bought a domain at a snapnames auction you could be one of the 5% who were forced to bid higher by a corrupt employee (none less than the VP of the company himself). Article 1 Article 2 Have you been affected?
What's annoying is that when snapnames was acquired recently it appears that even the basic due diligence was not done. They didn't even check Network Solutions' opt-out (see comments here)
before i have followed the news on techcrunch, i doubt other companies have done this before like pool.com or sedo etc but we don't know yet.
Wow, that's crazy...I bet their lawyers will have a feast on that guy. Can you imagine what that 5% of customers from 2005-2007 amounts to in dollars?
Apparently the buyers didn't do even basic due diligence on acquiring snapnames. And did not even know about the Network Solutions opt out discussed in the comments section here. They spent $25 million and didn't bother with the most basic checks?!
thanks for the link, i read though the blog post, it's time to switch to another companies like namejet, sedo, etc.
If you were affected it would have been mentioned in the email. I received the emails. They only mentioned a couple of the domains I purchased with halvarez as one of the bidders and some of the other auctions I won I could not find in my history. I did not take the rebate yet. In my case it wasn't a lot but again some $xxxx domains I won at auction were not there so I am waiting to see how everything plays out.
