I have 4 domain names and am going to start a link campaign. They are all on one server and the whois is registered to the same person. I do not want to be considered spam but do not want to go get 4 different IPs. Is just changing the WHOIS going to be good enough to keep from being considered spam? 4 seperate WHOIS would make it look like 4 seperate owners. I know there are some IPs that have hundreds of domains on one server and they rank well.
You shouldnt link your sites together if they are on the same IP address. If you feel that you need to link one or more of the sites together because they are relevant you should use a no follow tag. It doesnt matter what the Who Is info says, it all boils down to the IP address
So, your telling me that a IP that has 1000 URLS on one IP should not link between any of those sites even accidentally or it can hurt them? What if I am from a small town with one server and we have 1000 businesses in that town that link to each other. Would everybodys site be worthless?
I'm hoping it doesn't hurt if the same IP is linking to each other! I have my business on a dedicated server, but also all my hobby, family, and personal sites. I have all my family and personal sites linking to my business site, but probably less than 10 links altogether.
nobody said anything about 'everybodys site be worthless' just because you are linked and not getting credit for the links doesn't ruin your site... .it is something that is good to avoid though if you can help it...
EXACTLY. I wouldnt link them together unless I had a really good reason and would do so on a small scale.
Google assumes that sites on the same IP (or class C) likely share common ownership - and as a registrar, they can check the current and historical ownership information. If you have a legitimate reason to cross link for traffic/referral purposes, go ahead and do it - just don't expect google to count it as an unbiased "vote" for your site. If you go crazy with cross linking, you run a risk of a penalty for being a link farm.
