Whois Opt Out

My domain registrar is causing me some difficulties by refusing to remove my contact details from my .com domain. Although I see their point I thought I was entitled to remain anonymous as long as I was a none trading individual (as with co.uk names). Am I right in this?

If I am not however, is there a service that allows mail to be forwarded to my home that is cheaper than a PO box?

Can't you just get private registration? Lots of registrars offer it for free. Maybe I am misunderstanding your question, though.

Most registrars offer "private WHOIS" or "private registration". If yours doesn't then you can move to a registrar that does. Some charge extra for it some don't. Essentially the domain goes into the registrars' name, the WHOIS shows their details, and they bounce any emails to you. The downside is that the domain legally goes into their name and it may be hard to prove ownership if there is a problem.

You can't get Private registration on all domain registrations though, .Us, .Eu and .Co.Uk don't allow them.

no registrar will allow you to 'OPT OUT' of the whois database, its part of a condition of you registering the name, the next best thing is whois protection, a lot of registrars give this for free or charge a very small fee, I recommend namecheap.com or domainsite.com (domainsite charge less than a buck)
