WHOIS Information

    Hi,
I have a quick question. Is there a way to make my WHOIS info private for free? Hypothetically :), if I have fake WHOIS information, what's the worst that could happen to me? What are the chances of getting caught?

    Thanks

Yep, one I know that provides it for free is Namecheap.

Do not use false information, the consequences could be serious.

1and1 will give you *huge* problems if you are ever even 1 day late on a renewal.

Well, you are supposed to maintain real details on your WhoIs records. If you have fake information, during their checks, you may be asked to verify the address and failing which, you may lose it.

Whois Privacy is a service which is offered by the domain name registrar where you got the domain name from. Check with them. Some places like Namecheap offers the first year free of charge.

What's the worst that can happen, though, if ICANN finds out that my information is fake? If I put PRIVATE in all of them will I still get in trouble?

Well, the worst that could happen is that if they cannot verify your information, you may have the domain name taken away from you.

Just pay the few dollars to get the Whois Privacy then be done with it.
