WHOIS Info - Safe?

    Hi all,

I usually pay to have these records blocked, but if I don't, I don't like putting my real accurate information. Does anyone do the same? Do you guys think it would actually be safe putting your phone number and address out to the public? You never know what a competitor may do if they're frustrated or stressed over the fact that your actually beating them, for example in google rankings which at the end of the day, effects sales and business. Your now targetted, who knows if someone might break into your place and steal all your computer hardware to screw you over and set you behind...anything is possible.

    What are your thoughts?

I think its against TOS of most domain registrars to enter incorrect info. You should go with the ones with free whois protection if you are not willing to pay for it because incorrect info in the whois may get your domain taken away from you.

I thought the whois stuff only actually applied in the US (despite them saying it's a global thing or whatever) but I don't know, anyway, my domains all currently have free whois protection in either case.

It doesn't just apply to the US. If you have fake whois information, your domain name can be suspended or taken from you.

OP, if you're worried about it then use whois privacy, or get a PO Box.

just use a privacy protection with domains. false whois info can make your domain suspended and screw the business

Even I prefer domain privacy for various reasons. Protecting personal info is a must.
