Article Directories With article directories you need to compile a little research first before jumping in head first. You should use adwords to find a title that's being searched for quite a bit monthly but has low results competition in google search. Once you've done this compile the best content possible on your title and submit it to your favorite article directory. The content must be original and if you did your keywords research should do well in SERPs. Guest-Blogging Guest blogging on the other hand doesn't require you using SERPs at all. You just decide for yourself the best title that works for the content you're providing and submit it to a popular blog. Preferably a blog that's known for having great content. By doing so the title of the article does not have to be google search results friendly because you're putting your article directly in the heart of targeted traffic. Great information here! I still think that guest blogging is the way to go in almost any situation. It was this way in the past, and it is even more so after the Google updates. With guest posting you are tapping into an already existing highly targeted traffic pool, and visitors and rankings are almost a guarantee. With article marketing you can only *hope* someone will syndicate your article to their ezine or blog, which unfortunately happens in rare cases.

I feel like guest blogging's benefits outweight article marketing. It has more viral potential. Article sites don't send much traffic these days.
Well, while guest blogging is the new hype I haven't quite given up on old fashion article directories. Ezine usually allows me to give on the first two pages of google so I would say balance both.
if I have 2 options between article directories and guest blogging to promote my blog, I will pick guest blogging. The best thing about guest blogging is the engagement. if I post my content in article directories, my content should compete other articles. in guest blogging, my content is standing over specific/targeted audiences and I don't have to compete with many writers.
