Review: www.xtrashots.com First appearances suggest that your site is clean cut, however it is difficult to understand what your site is about. Your URL suggests that the site may have something to do with photography, camera’s, photos etc, however when you delve further into your website, you find that the majority of the content is related to Human Resources issues. URL: Your URL is quite impressive. It is short and easy to remember, so it has the making of a great URL, however it appears that the URL has very little relation with the underlining purpose of your website. Your URL suggests the site is a shot about photos, however you only have a couple of photos, and you don’t have any content about photos. This leads me onto the next topic. Overall Purpose: What is the overall purpose of your website? For a first timer looking at your site, it is difficult to tell. Your URL indicates that it is a site related to photos, however your content goes off into a totally different direction of Human Resources. You also have things like Jokes and Puzzles, which are separate to photos and HR. The overall purpose of your site appears to be all over the place. What you need to do, is write down the purpose of your site in one sentence. If you had one sentence, to explain to someone what your site is about, what would you say? If the underlining purpose of your site is to focus on HR, then you should focus more on HR. It would make sense to get a URL / Site title that relates to HR. If you want your site to be more about Jokes and Puzzles, then you need to take a more humorous approach. HR is a very serious topic, where jokes and puzzles are more light hearted. They are two totally different topics and don’t work well together, so you need to chose one or the other and amend the site accordingly. Further to this, if you want your site to be about photos, then you need to drop content relating to HR, jokes and puzzles and focus on photos. Your site is in need of some direction, so if you can write out what you are hoping to achieve, this should provide you with the direction you need. Color Scheme: You color scheme is pretty good and works well. It is clean, has a good choice of colors and is easy to read. The grey outer background is professional, with the white inner background is professional, and draw attention to the centre of the page, which is what you want. The white background also makes it easy for the user to read the content. The black header and footer with green writing also works well. As far as your color scheme goes, I feel that you have pretty much got it right. Title / Header: This has some room for improvement. First of all, your title is a little small, so it doesn’t stand out enough. When people come to your site, the first thing you want them to see is the title, so that they remember it. Try making the title a bit bigger, and give some consideration to creating a descriptive slogan. Something like “XtraShots.com – All Things Photos†or “XtraShots.com – Human Resources†(Although you may want a new URL if you decide to go with HR). You want your user to remember your title, but at the same time, you want it to provide them with some idea of what your site is about. I also don’t quite know what the blue “Xtrashots†banner is achieves. It doesn’t fit in with color scheme, it is a bit distracting, and when I click on it, it simply opens up the exact same website that I am already looking at, just in a new browser. Not only does it take away from the title of your site, but it also makes the entire title section look bare and boring. It creates so much excess black background, which looks a bit unprofessional, and as though your site doesn’t have too much to offer. The menu across the top is ok, however it slightly contradicts the menu that is situated underneath the header bar. At the top of the page, you have “Interesting Facts, Puzzles and Jokes†then directly underneath the header, you have another menu with Fact, Puzzles and Jokesâ€. This confuses the user, as they are not sure whether they should be navigating your site through the top of the page, or through the menu just under the header. Menu Application Box: With the Facts, Jokes, Puzzle, Photo, Quote, Today’s Word box that sits directly under the header, I struggle to work out what it is meant to achieve. You already have a menu bar at the top of the page, so if it is for the purpose of navigation, then it is unneeded. Where it is situated is also prime real estate, and I feel that you could make better use of this space by getting rid of it all together. The size of it, also doesn’t fit in the layout of your site. It spreads three quarters across the width of your page, which is a bit more then the width of the blog, and leaves a blank empty space for the remainder. I would look at getting rid of that application all together, and making sure that any information you want to keep from the application is accessible from the menu bar. Contact Details: I feel you could do with some contact details on your website, even if it is just an email address or link at the bottom of the page. If people want to get in contact with you for one reason or another, you want to make it as easy as possible. Get Clicky / Traffic Rank: Through my browser, these links are sitting in the bottom left hand corner and look very out of place. You should find a place for these links in the main part of your website. You should also try viewing your site through different internet browsers, as certain things can appear fine on your browser, however for users using a different browser, it could appear differently. Browser Title: With your browser title, consider adding a descriptive keyword or slogan. This will help improve your SEO on Google. At the moment in your HTML the title appears just as <title>XtraShots</title>. Make the most of it, and ad a slogan or couple of Keywords. Conclusion In summing up, I think you need sit down and work out exactly what it is that you want your site to achieve. You are better off doing a good job focusing on one topic like Human Resources, then you are struggling to cover a range of totally separate topics. You have the makings of a great site, however it appears to be wandering aimlessly with no direction. Identify the overall purpose of your site, and this will provide you with the direction that you need. You can then improve your website in the direction that you want to head. G'day Ohreallymoney You are under no obligation whatsoever to pay, however, if you are satisfied, you can simply pay whatever you feel it is worth and whatever suits your affordability. Different people have different affordabilities, so I am not going to judge anyone by how much they decide to pay. Whatever you feel comfortable paying is fine, but the most important thing for me, is that you to feel like you got a good deal and value for money. What site would you like me to review? Cheers
I think it's time for a review , could you do a detailed review of my site www.lennysgarge.com thanks in advance
I dont think we have to pay someone for a review. We can ask for honest reviews from our friends, families, and other forums too. i dont think its necessary to pay for just one review. I can get about 100s of honest reviews for free. You are most welcome to prove me wrong
G'day Wazir You raise some very valid points. The problem I have found with obtaining free reviews from forums, is that a lot of the time, people only take a quick look at the site, and often provide a one liner review, which is difficult to take anything from. In regards to family, yes they can provide feedback as well, but they may not be able to provide you with the level of detail that you actually need to improve your site. I know if I asked my Mother to review a website, she would tell me that it looked "very nice" no matter what website she was looking at. The last thing I want to do is rip anyone off. So that is why I insist, that if they are not satisfied or don't feel it is worthy information, then they do not need to feel obligated to pay. It is entirely up to the client as to whether or not they pay, and if so how much. Cheers
you are right bro, most of the people just have a view at site and write some useless one liners review. In that case, I would like you to review my website once : www.teamwarez.org Code (markup): I will give you an ebook which I am planning to sell as soon as I get post above 25, and it is a useful book. (I dont have paypal account now)
Review: www.ohreallymoney.com At first glance, your site is a little difficult on the eyes. You have to be careful when using green, because it can be a really hard color on the eyes, especially if users are expected to read a lot of green text. URL: Your URL contains the word “money†which is great, however just from reading the URL or Title, it is somewhat difficult to tell what your site is all about. I know it has something to do with money, but what exactly. Try coming up with a short descriptive slogan or keyword phrase that provides more information on your site. As a quick example, from the top of my head, something like “OhRealMoney.Com – The Fun Rewards Siteâ€, that lets people associate your name with a rewards site, and by quickly reading it, they understand what it is all about. Header: Your header is quite cute, however the orange seems to stand out more then the site title. You want the title to stand out, so that users can remember the name of your site. There is no point the user remembering the color orange, because it won’t help them remember the name of your site. Consider shifting the title up into the orange section, so that it stands out more. Also, once you have come up with a descriptive key word phrase or slogan, place that up there in the title as well, so that when people click on your site they can see something like “OhRealMoney.com – The Fun Rewards Siteâ€. As soon as they read this, they know that your site is a rewards site. Outside Background: The outside background with all the clovers is a little distracting. Although it is only very pale, it still draws attention away from the content in the middle of the page, and makes it difficult for the user to concentrate and read. Consider using a shade of grey as the outside background. It is easier on the eyes, and what it does is draws attention to the middle of the page, where you want your users to be looking. Color Scheme: You have quite a simple yet effective color scheme, the green and orange with a white background seems to work quite well. In saying that though, the green content text in the middle of the page, is terrible difficult to read and hard on the eyes. I recommend changing the text to black. Although you may think Black is boring, people find it easier to read. You can still use it for headings, just not in sections where there is a lot of reading text. Navigation: The navigation of your site is a little bit confusing for a user. You have a menu going across the top of the page with a couple of links, but you also have a menu going down the left hand side with more links. I would recommend choosing one of them, and sticking with it. Have a look at what other sites do, and get some ideas off them. The Navigation on the left hand side does appear a bit old school with that yellow coin. You might want to consider getting rid of the yellow coin, if you are going to stick with the left menu as being your main source of navigation. Last 10 Completed Offers: All this section displays is “Vote For Oh Really Money†ten times, which makes it look as though there is some sort of error, or it isn’t working. I am not sure what this feature is meant to be, but you might have to give some consideration to its purpose and how it appears to a user. Horizontal Advertisement: The horizontal advertisement across the top of the page is a bit tacky, and definitely detracts from your site. Although advertisements make money, they do not drive traffic, in fact they generally deter traffic. So you need to find the right balance of maximizing their potential, but minimizing the effects that they have on detracting from your site. You have plenty of space down the bottom right hand side of your page, so you may want to consider removing the advertisement from the top of the page, and replacing it with one in the new position. It will be less obtruding, and look as though it is part of the site. Forum: You don’t seem to have a lot of action on your forum, so your best bet is to simplify it to make it look you you have more then you really do. Cut down the amount of different sections that you have, so that there are only a couple of options. This will make it appear as though there is more action. When you start to get some increased traffic, you can then look at expanding your categories out. Also that that bright color green is terribly hard on the eyes, which isn’t what you want for a forum, where people spend lots of time reading. You want to make forums relaxing on the eye, using dull, neutral colors, that people can stare at for hours without getting sores eyes. Conclusion Although things may work for you, you need to take a walk through your site in the shoes of someone who has not seen it before. You look at the site every day, so of course you are going to be able to navigate around the site, but what about people whi visit the site for the first time. Same goes with the purpose of the site, you deal with it every day, so you know what it is about, but for someone looking at your site for the first time, it is a bit difficult for them to get a grasp on what the site is about at first. Good luck with your site, and if you have any further questions or would like some more feedback on certain aspects, please feel free to contact me. If you are satisfied with this review, and feel free to make a PayPal payment of your choice to Cheers
You have reviewed his site bro, I hope you get on my site this time. Also wondering how much does other people pay you, so that I think of paying you accordingly
I sure have reviewed his site, hopefully another happy customer. Previously when I did this a year ago or so, payment varied on the individual. Those that could afford would pay more, those that couldnt afford as much would pay less. I would generally leave it up to the individual. With that said however, the maximum I recieved was $20, and the minimum was $1. So it is pretty much up to the individual where they want to sit within that range, or if they want to set a new record. Cheers
My question to you ( Jake Howard ) great job by the way... is after your review the website, Is there another service you provide to improve the website owned by the individual ?
Review: www.lennysgarage.com When I first visited this site, I suffered an epileptic fit, from all the flashing images. Now that I have been released from hospital, I am able to finish conducting the review. URL: Although your URL doesn’t have exact relation with online games, it is quite catchy, and I see that you often refer to your site as Lenny’s Garage - Online Games, which is a good thing, as it lets users know that your garage is filled with games. Header: Just like when someone reads a book, the first place a person looks whenever they visit a website is the top left hand corner. This is where you should have the title of your site, not over on the right hand side. Move the title over the left, and move the image over to the right. Also, you don’t want to politely “Welcome People†to your garage, this is your garage, and you want to boldly “Tell People†that this is your garage. Get rid of the words “Welcome to†and simply make it “Lenny’s Garage - Online Gamesâ€. Also try and make the text a little bigger, so that people take notice of it and remember what your site is called. Top Menu Bar: The menu at the very top of the page, is too far out of reach. It should also be below your header, as this is where the menu is situated on the majority of websites and where people look most of the time for it. Also, you have two menu bars at the moment. The one at the very top, and the one with the different types of games. Try merging them together, so that you only have one menu. The home button should be the first one, then you can go from there. Bottom Menu Bar: Your entire site looks like it has been professionally developed, all except for the menu bar that site just below the header. You should look at trying to tie it in with the theme and color scheme of the remainder of the site, because at the moment it just looks like normal text on a white background. Flashing Ads: These flashing ads are terribly distracting, and they are going so fast that it is almost impossible to look at your website without getting a headache. My preference would be to get rid of them altogether, but if this is not an option, at least try to cut the number of them down, and slow them down somewhat. Also, you have too many ads at the top of the page. By removing the flashing ones, you will help reduce this, and help users find your games first. Remember, that users come to your site for your games, not for your ads. If they think that your site is just full of advertisements, then they will not come back. Links Page: Although the flashing links on the home page were annoying, the flashing links on the links page seem to be pretty impressive. This is where you should focus on building up your flashing links, as it doesn’t look to bad when they are all together and that is what you are focusing on. In fact, I would like to see what the page would look like with heaps more links on it. Conclusion Overall, the site appears to be quite impressive. If you rearrange the header in order to reinforce the name of your site, along with focusing more on your content, and less on other people’s advertisements, I am sure that your users will see much improvement. If you have any questions, or require any further feedback, please feel free to contact me. If you are satisfied with this review, then feel free to make a payment of your choice via PayPal. G'day LDBiz, thanks for your message. Unfortunately, I do not have the web development ability to physically make the changes for the client. If i did physically make the upgrades myself, it would also minimise the amount of time that I can spend reviewing websites, which is where I feel my strength is. I wouldnt mind teaming up with a web developer at some stage, where I can reccomend the changes, and the web developer implement them if they customer wishes, however that is probably a little bit down the track, unless of course I am approached sooner by a web developer that likes the idea of it. With that said, once I perform a review, I am happy to provide further assistance and feedback to a customer if they require. Wazir, I am working on your review as we speak. Cheers
Review: www.teamwarez.org When I first opened this site, I had absolutely no idea what it was going to be about. I had no idea what the topic was, and I had absolutely no idea that the site was a forum. However when I looked at the site, I was extremely impressed with quality of the website. It comes across extremely clean cut and professional, which is definitely what you want. URL: Your URL is quite short and sweet, which is a good thing, but as I mentioned before, it gives the user absolutely no gauge as to what the site is all about. So you need to develop a descriptive catch phrase, or slogan or tag line or bunch of key words that tells everyone what your forum is about. Something like “TeamWarez.org - The Download Forum†it needs to describe what your forum is all about. If you had one sentence, to explain to someone what your forum was about, what would you tell them? Work on this, and then take the keywords, and try and turn it into a short and catchy tag line that you can use to quickly describe your forum. Then use this everywhere, like in the title on the blue internet browser bar and in the header etc. Color Scheme: Your color scheme is very impressive. The forum section is light and neutral in colour, which makes it easy on people’s eyes when reading. It also looks professional and clean cut, which is also great. Header Bar: Lets take a look at the header bar on the home page. The very top section is just a welcome bar, with a search box. Then the next section is a menu bar, then underneath that, you have got the log in section, then underneath that you have got the title of the website, then underneath that you have got an advertisement, then underneath that you have got another welcome bar, then underneath that you have got a welcome message. Do you see what I am getting at here? A user comes to your site, and all they want to do is look at the forum, however when the open the forum, all they see is a lot of wasted space, taking up the best real estate of the site, and they have to scroll write down, to get to where they need to go. Take a look at this Digital Point Forum, one of the most popular forums on the net. You open up the home page, they have got everything you have got, a header, a menu, log in section, a search feature, an advertising banner, however they manage to comfortably fit it all in, in about a third of the space that your site does. Heck, I can open the DP home page, and see half way down the forum, without having to scroll, whereas when I get to your forum, I have to scroll all the way down. Take a look at what DP does, and see if you can play around with your header section, to minimise wasted space, and make the most of what you have got. Top 5 Stats: This feature is fantastic for a busy forum, but for a forum that is only just starting out, or that does not have a great deal of members and traffic, it is a bit of a waste of space. You are better off trying to get people focusing on contributing to your forum, compared to just looking around your site aimlessly, at features like the Top 5 stats. It might be an idea, just to hide it for the time being. Down the track, when your forum picks up a bit of steam, then it might be worth while bringing back, but for the moment, you don’t want to focus on encouraging your members to contribute. Conclusion Your site has a lot of potential. But when starting out, you need to focus more on encouraging people to contribute, as opposed to provided the latest features. It is not the features that encourage people to visit your forum, it is the content that people contribute in posts. You can have all the latest features in the world, but if you don’t have the people, then you have got nothing. Where you cans till have a forum, if you do not have the latest features, but you have people contributing. Take a look at how other popular forums are set up, like DP. I hope you found this review useful, and if you have any questions or would like further feedback, then please let me know. Also, if you are satisfied with my review, then feel free to make a PayPal payment of your choice to
