I am thinking about submitting my site to the yahoo directory but want to get a little feedback from people. have you submitted to yahoo directory? and has it turned into website traffic?
I'm pleased with the SERP results. However, don't count on getting any real traffic. I get maybe 1 hit per month from it.
From what i've heard getting listed at yahoo helps improve the authority of your site. Thus helping it to rank well in search engines.
Well, I think it helped getting indexed. My site is on the 2nd of 2 pages and the second page has no PR for Google. I have seen very little traffic from the directory. It kind of irks me because several of the url's on the 1st page aren't even active anymore. Is it worth $300? Probably not, unless you're on the first page and even then, it may not be.
I am listed within two holidays in Yahoo Directory and get a few hundred during those times of the year. All together, I probably get around 1,000 visitors from it for the entire year... so around 500 for each one. After the listing traffic went up in both Google and Yahoo, more-so Google though. Yahoo only went up slightly. Overall I would say a listing is worth it (if kept for long-term). Both of my listings were free (selected specifically by the editors... I didn't even submit it) though.
Directories really aren't designed for traffic. They are there to give you backlinks and help you with your search engine rankings.
On this topic...does anyone know what happens once your one year paid term is up? What are your chances of getting added for free and permanently?
I don't think the chances are really very good. Theres no real reason to decide not to make an extra 300 clams. Yahoo directory is likely worth it. Its one of the few directories with real power, and does actually bring some traffic. I think it helps with yahoo rankings quite a bit as well. My problem with Yahoo is their damn credit card form is broken. I'm trying to pay for 6 damn sites, besides that there is absolutely no contact information on their site.
Once you pay for a listing they rebill you every year. If they add your site for free for some reason, which they have done for a few of my sites, I never have to pay but you also seem to never be able to change the listing. I think Yahoo Directory is great for SERP as mentioned before in this post. For traffic, it really depends what section you are listed in and how popular it is. Most of my sites get little traffic from Yahoo D. 1 gets quite a bit. It has authority and passes that onto you. Really its G that seems to like it the most. And well G, for me at least, always seems to bring in the most visitors and traffic. If you have a site and you are serious about it, then I always will list it in Yahoo D. To the above post: https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/manage/orders - works for me to view my orders and you can contact customer service, place orders etc. You have to be a yahoo member though.
It's definitely there more to help your SEO than bring traffic. I still think its a little pricey for the average site but if you have a large budget or have tried everything else, it's definitely a trustworthy option.
