Yes who used to use altavista before yahoo bought them i loved them. Yahoo bought them out tho and it isnt the same anymore each time i click search it taps into yahoos crap. any other people use to use altavista?
I use it on occasion to test some SERPs, but I never use it as my primary source for searching. Google is always there for me when I need them.
I used Altavista when it was the best, back in 1999, later came Lycos (which is one of the worst right now) and the rest is history... Google though I hate that stupid localization thing displaying Google France in English instead of French, as I need it doing a reasearch :/ Yes, it has an option to switch to French, but it is annoying they select automatically a language based in your keyboard instead of let you do it by yourself.
I used to use them way back when (not long after I got an internet account and finally stopped using BBS's). Altavista was always good when Yahoo and others weren't giving a whole lot of results, but they didn't seem to give a whole lot of quality results on their first pages. They were good as a 2nd or 3rd choice for me when other search engines weren't giving the results I needed.
I used to use them to before they got bought out and before the rise of Google. They used to give good results. Now there is not point using them, just go to Yahoo.
I used to use Atlavista all the time then I saw few people using a new green one google - I thought I stick to Altavista, like it and I'm not the kind of switching to new gismos. That was long time ago. Now the big green guy is my home page...
av.com used to redirect there (still does, I just checked ). This was my primary search engine back in the days, before Google became popular. I loved it...
It was my main search engine during the late '90s, and it was very nice. I then later switched to Yahoo!, and finally use Google today.
Altavista was my favourite SE. Then came all this fuss about google, for a good reason though. Even though I've stopped using Altavista for searching, I still continue using babelfish, though...
I used to love using altavista SE, the results were pretty clean and filtered well, I used AV's pic search aswell and babelfish was always there to translate.
I used Altavista back in the day when it was the search engine to use. I was kind of late to switch to Google, I might add. Could always get relevant results from AV searchs so I didn't see much point in switching right away.
I used to use it quite a bit for music and videos. I not too sure why, some habits are strange... not to sure how they come about
