Hello everyone,I have been hearing a lot of very positive things about the amount of sales that a large, interactive mailing list can have. Anyone got any tips, success stories or advice to give about email marketing and how to utilise it to the maximum :)

Its not the size of your list.. Its the relationship you have with them..

    1. Build a squeeze page
2 offer something for free in exchange for their e-mail and name
3 Drive traffic to the squeeze page
    4 Work on conversions..

Thank you for your reply. Can squeeze pages be easily built? and also, what do you do to drive the traffic to the squeeze page?

Your relationship with your list is by far the most important.

I know marketers who have massive email lists, but get a very low "open rate" percentage of people who actually click to open and read the email. Others I know, who have spent time interacting with their list and have built up a good relationship with them, get open rates in the 20-40% range, which is almost unheard of with some lists, as they only get 3-7% open rates, which to me is really low.

To get your open rates a lot higher and to build up a better relationship, try this:

    1. Have a 1 to 1 or even a 2 to 1 content vs selling ratio.

What I mean is, for every email you send trying to sell your list something, have at least one email that just provides great content with no selling. Two to one is even better.

Or, if you insist on selling in every email, make sure you have good, solid content in each of your emails, that way, every time they open it, your readers know they're going to get at least one tip that may help them with whatever niche your are in.

    2. Talk about yourself.

People like to get to know you. Tell some story about your life or what happened that day and then weave that story into something that ties in with a product you're promoting. People will feel like they know you, and it slowly builds up trust with your and your reader. People tend to buy more from someone they trust, so let them get to know you through a few stories here and there about your and your life and your interests. Don't over do it, just something from time to time.

    3. Stay in contact.

While some people may email too much, others email not often enough. I would say at least once a week. A few times a week is even better and some can email every day if you have great content and/or something valuable or interesting to say.

    4. Promote great products. Yes you can do really well sending them anything and everything, but after awhile, your list will get "burnt out" and get tired of you promoting products that aren't any good.

But if you only promote products that you truly believe in and know that are good, then you will get a reputation for only promoting great stuff, and your list will respond to that. They'll know that whatever your selling or promoting must be good because you've always done that in the past, and they'll be far more inclined to buy what you offer.

There's a lot more, but I hope this helps. I'd love to see you benefit from it! :)

that was very helpful, thank you. So would you say to concentrate on creating better relationships with customers on the list more than anything else in the early stages?

I agree with the other guys in the matter of selling something it's not about the size of the list but more of the relationship & knowledge you have of these people so you actually know what to sell. P.S if you need lists of emails I got fresh ones :)

Yes, but you can certainly still sell in the beginning as well. Just don't overdo it. Treat them the way you want to be treated. You wouldn't mind getting promotions for quality products that you may not have seen otherwise. But it's not like you want an ad stuffed in your email inbox several times a day from someone.

A very easy (and smart) way to do this all at once is send out emails with a tip in every one, and then say something like, hey, if you want a lot more of this, you can check out [link to whatever product you want to promote] and see for yourself.

Or tell them about a product you've used and are benefiting from, you think they can too. Offer them a link. That way, it "sells" without really selling them, if that makes sense.

There's lots of ways to do it. Mix it up. Some emails may get right to it and say, "I found about this great product, check it out, etc" another may be pure content, just offering them useful advice and no selling. Another email might be a tip or two or some advice on something, and and a "soft sell" product pitch at the end.

Just use the Golden Rule. Treat your list the way you would want to be treated. Hope this helps!

It can be.. You need good copywriting skills.. Your page has to be convincing enough so they opt in..you can use paid traffic or free methods.. keep in mind free methods might take a while to see results..

I stay away from selling, I say its best to get your people to read more on your website and build trust. Now, once in awhile is fine, but not everytime.

I won't said it as number 1 selling tools while it depend on your email campaign you send but email marketing is way that cannot miss out in internet marketing world.
    Email Marketing
    - Generate repeat sales by up sell and cross sell
    - The open rate might depend but the conversion rate is high if calculate with the open rate
    - People tense easy to get reply with email compare to call in
    - use it to keep in touch with your subscribers no matter in sales , promo , information sharing, event and even some holiday wishing . This allow to maintain your customers.
    - Send them while they might ignore for 10 times but the 11 times they might saw the need and look back to you .
    - Easy to collect survey data with email compare to cold calling which mostly people would not answer of gave fake answer.

I've had a lot of success producing conversions through my mailing lists. It's important to create a good follow up sequence and keep in touch with your subscribers, but if you do they'll be happy to take a look at things you mail them (affiliate links). I highly suggest checking out AWeber.

If you've got a great targeted audience, its one of the best ways to advertise your product or services. You should, however, send emails to those who've chosen to receive emails from you either by subscription or legit way.
