We're all into scraping up as much $ as we can from the interknit, that's why most of us are here. BUT is anyone here running a non-profit and 'unmonetized' website anymore, just for the thrill of it? Like back in the early 90s when we were all extactic that someone from the other side of the world could be into the same stupid hobby/interest that we were into. Who's into not making money from the internet? Anyone left? I'm talking about sites that have NO ads, NO affiliate links, NOTHING.
There's still alot of sites like that. I hadn't seen many in awhile, either, until I spent some time on some of those sites where people show off their layouts: If you're like I was and it's been awhile since you browsed the internet all night not looking for webmastering-related stuff... the feeling could be great.
I still have a few like that, although to say I run them is a bit of a stretch. They're just out there still, like so many abandoned pixels. Mostly it's stuff I built when I was still learning the basics of html, javascript and css.
The first link in my sig is a site that has no revenue sources. Its still in Beta but when its ready it still wont have revenue. But i agree, there are not too many sites anymore that dont have any sort of advertising on them these days.
I have one site like that. http://www.chandigarhpothole.com People of our city can post the pictures of potholes they see around thei place or anywhere in the tricity and we get the administration to get them fixed. It was a hit initially, but response was not that good later on.
What about one where the money goes to charity? I have a site which has adsense on articles, is non profit and all money goes to charity (HIV/AIDS in Africa)
