I dont really understand the whole appeal of blogs. Why would anyone take an interest in reading other people's journals? I've seen blogs where people talk about their cats, like really, who cares about someone's cat??? By the way, my blog is: http://theadulttoyshoppe.blogspot.com/ just in case anyone is interested... ...And this blog is NOT about my cat!
Perhaps for the same reasons why anyone would take a genuine interest in other people in general? However, it seems you're equating blogs with personal diaries. While I'm sure there's plenty of self-involved blogs like that around, the ones I read I tend to think of as something more akin to news services. Basically, most blogs I read are by people with similar interests (no, not cats!) who post interesting advice, news, rumours, tidbits and links; distilling and disseminating information for those of us who don't have as much time to scour the web daily. Then, of course, there are those rare people, either brilliant, crazy or just weird, whose blogs are inspiring, interesting or fascinating reading no matter what subject they're about.
It's election time in NZ so I'm finding the political commentary on www.kiwiblog.co.nz really worthwile.
That is funny. The appeal of blogs is just like the appeal of information websites. The people that blog about cats appeal to people that like to read about cats. I mean it's that easy. Why would you have a blog about adult toys? Who do you think cares about that? People that like adult toys. Blogs are like people. Some are interesting and worthwhile. Some aren't. Some are popular...etc.
Well, yeah, there are many different blogs, so saying "no one reads blogs" because no one is interested in other people's cats is like saying no one watches movies because no one likes violence. There are blogs dealing with other than personal life.
Its like saying the same question as do people visit websites. Then also why do you have a blog as well. We all think differently to someone else (what you may not like some else will)
A lot of people are tired of one-sided stories given by regular news. They want feedback and opinions from regular folks.
Yeah, I know what you mean, so from that angle I've met some really nice people through a year of blogging which includes going to concerts with bloggers doing a beer festival with bloggers meeting my girlfriend through blogging a holiday in the US a blogging buddy's wedding in the US next year So the question is really what would happen if people didn't do/read blogs? I think the last 12 months would have been a little less fun IMHO
Blogs are a little insight to the blogger. Have you ever had the urge to read you sister's diary or stick your nose into someone's private life? Some blogs have that same pull.
Mike: LMAO, yeah, my girl came over here for a week, then I went over there and then she's back over here again and then it's me back over to the US in September for 4 weeks... >Insert hectic smilie here< Gotta grab me a decent laptop so I can do some work from her place Oh, and I bought a house too whilst I was "away" SamOwen: Spot on! There's some raucous stuff out there... makes you glad your life is so sane sometimes Willy: I read her blog, she read mine, we exchanged emails, then packages, then telephone numbers... visits... the rest, ah well, you don't need to know *all* the details, right?
Lucky you, Lever, lucky lucky you. The most important part is that bloggers must find it fun to blog. It seems that a lot of people get discouraged because no one is reading their blogs and such. I personally believe that one really shouldn't write for the mass, because what's so great about these personal blogs are they are "personal" which means each of these blogs should be unique. popular and more public blogs might have better craftsmanship, better writing skills, and better materials, but they are most of the time fixed for the public appeal, and I sometimes find them to be too similar to each other, the so-called "standard". Or it could just be the finr artsit side of me making me feeling so...
It's nice to read what some writers have in mind about some issue... It's their personal opinion but most of the time, their arguments make sense...
Thanks, YianG, that's what I thought Exactly! And as for "no readership" I think every blog has had that when it started - they just take time to promote and settle, each with their own little posse. Hey there. Great blog! Be sure to come over and check out my flying slugs Some time LOL j/k
heh I actually commented (it's so much easier to comment on something than actually starting something yourself)
LMAO, you did an' all. Cheers dude I can't believe that was September last year LOL BTW I just signed up to party Lookin' good.
