Who really deserves to be in the big game? (NFL)

Discussion in 'Games' started by gemini181, Jan 15, 2007.

    This is not a 'Who will win the Super bowl?' thread;
    It is a "Who really deserves to be in the big game, and / or will make an exciting Super Bowl event?"

    My ideas might be interesting to somebody:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Who really deserves to be in the big game?
    New England: Yes.
    They both 'deserve it', and make for a good game, IMO.
    Indy: No they do not deserve to make it.
    On an average game their defense is no where near championship level.
    They would however be exciting, and with some extreme luck (last weekend) they now have home-field advantage.
    Does a high-scoring team with poor defense ever win the Big Game?
    Sure the Rams barely beat Tennessee ~7 years ago.
    When they returned two years later they were a 14 point favorite, and it turned into Brady's first Super Win (in a big upset)
    /Poor Kurt Warner (Rams QB) never 'fully recovered' from the beating either.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Bears: I'm a big Bears fan.
    The team they had after 5 weeks was solid, fierce, and a true championship level of talent. They now have key injuries on Defense, and other problems.

    Yesterday, their effort level was great, but they barely beat a pretty week opponent. I very much want them to win, but they are not 'historically great' at this time. Sorry Bears, good luck, but if you do win (in some ways), you do not really deserve to be an NFC Champion.

    New Orleans:

    I did not see any of their losing games this year, just saw two of the good ones. Their QB is more experienced than the Bears, and they have Reggie Bush. .

    Their coach called a surprise onside kick against Dallas when the Saints had a 17 point lead. This is nuts, but it worked and sent a very strong message (to Dallas and others)

    IMO, based on excitement and quality, I'd have to say New Orleans deserves it more. Are they 'historically good enough'? I don't know, what do you think about New Orleans?

    And the other teams? Go Bears.

    Bears and the Colts...both teams deserve it, and although I am a bears fan, peyton deserves it more...he is the best QB in the league hands down.

    I really do love the Bears, but by 'historical standards' this team has serious flaws. The Saints will be tough to beat.

    The Colts might make it (kinda' like) the way the Rams did.

    Did you see T. Jones jumping around, All fired up?!!
    They have no problem with motivation.
    Too bad about Mike Brown, and other injuries.
    Both games next week will be very memorable! :D

    Really the New Orleans Saints deserve to win it all, just because what the city has gone through and how far they have come. But too bad there are three other teams fighting for the same goal. I think the Pats will take it against the Saints in the BIG GAME.

    No way! Chicago has put up with a lousy team for the last 20 years!

    New Orleans isn't supposed to be good...so getting this far is enough.

    Da Bears have to make it to the SB or it's another failed season!

    A truly dominant team, like the 2006 Bears were before the injuries.
    This was written after 5 games, mid-early Oct:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "1964 was 42 years ago.
    That is how long it has been since a 5-0 NFL team lead the sport in both most points scored and fewest points given up (after 5 games, source=NBC).
    The 2006 Chicago Bears do not mearly settle for winning. They are so good, so dominate the other team is destroyed, not just defeated. In other words, Seattle (who lost to the Bears 37-6), are at this time 4-1 and will probably go to the playoffs.
    IMO, deep down inside most players on the Seattle team do not seriously expect to repeat as NFC Champs, after the way the Bears pushed them around.
    This thread will be fun for Bears fans as it is the Countdown to history. As of today we have 111 Days To Go before historic Super Bowl XL1!
    This year could be really fun!!
    That is an example of "historically" nonsense :) :p :rolleyes: :D
    Hey, before the Bears even think about winning a SuperBowl they need to get a quarterback that thinks he can improve, Rex Grossman is such an idiot he thinks that he is doing fine when he really STINKS!!! :eek:
    Look at his career record and then flick yourself in the head for saying that! :p
    IMO, Favre had a very rough start also (in the early 90's).
    Grossman has the clear potential to be the Bears greatest career-long QB ever...
    ...but wait, just by 'walking on the field', Griese already has the highest QB rating (over a lifetime, but with other teams) of any QB who ever played for the Bears.
    (He threw a lot of short passes and got a good rating, but then teams dumped him anyway)
    The future is really very good for The Bears. :)
    Edit: The NFC is weak this year (an 8-8 team made the playoffs)
    The "doesn't deserve it thing" just means: "On other years the Bears and (maybe the) Saints would both have to be better teams to have made it this far."
    Good Luck does go really far some times, not every year.
    I'll pass on flicking myself in the head, but Grossman at this point is just not good enough. And he will not get better if he keeps this snobbish, arrogant attitude of his. He can improve and lead the Bears to a SuperBowl win, but unfortunately this is NOT that year. :D
    I'm not familiar w/ this snobbish side of Rex.
    He's always been very humble when he does well and he's always willing to take the blame when he F's up.
    Not sure if his confidence is giving you that impression. But confidence is GOOD...especially when you're a QB.
    In pre-season Rex said, "I'm not trying to be the best QB on the team, I'm aiming to be the best in the league."
    For only a few weeks (during the regular season), he actually was the best.
    IMO, Rob is right about him being 'humble,' much of the time.
    The 'best in the league quote' shows he knows he has tons of potential.
    Rex seems like a really nice guy. :)
    Don't get me wrong guys, it's not like I have a personal grudge against Grossman or anything. I just think that he needs to be a little less proud, and understand that he needs to get better til he can get the Bears a championship. I truly believe they can get far especially with the defense they have, but I think this is not their year.
    The Bears scored 427 points this year.
    Their offense has arguably been better than their defense.
    I think you're basing your analysis on ESPN highlights or something.
    Rob: I haven't checked do you know the point spread vs the Saints?
    Not to gamble, just curious.
