I have heard about the new craze that blogging is, and have to ask the question - Who reads blogs? Are more poeple writing blogs than are reading them? I think that the only poeple that read blogs are bloggers themselves. What do you think?

I'm inclined to agree, with the exception of a link to them from a credible source. Even then I am dubious about the accuracy of information in there, after all anyone can write about whatever they like.

I think it is wuite clear that all the posts in my blog are my own opinion. People should not take anything they read as fact, EVEN FROM REGULAR NEWS SITES!

So what if the only people who read blogs are fellow bloggers? I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

Although in my case, I have a lot of traffic from SE's so I would have to say that a majority of my readers aren't bloggers (or they happen to be bloggers that found my blog through the SE).

And don't forget that if your blog is good enough, you might be getting referred by other people who thought it was worthy of passing on to fellow friends or readers. JMO

    Yeah, I hear ya....

I guess it also really depeds on the blog For instance...I blog about different product reviews, and things like infomercials that I see on tv. I seem to rank quite high with keywords relevant to this. Poeple who search for, say, DirectBuy might find my blog in the top 5-10 with google.

It depends on what type of blog it is. Mine is more technical so I have a different type of reader from to a personal blog.

I guess the question is who subscribes to the feeds of a blog or bookmarks a blog. After all a single visit just means you found something useful that could have been on any site. To return to the blog because you want to read the updates is another matter.

As sarahk said, it depends on the type of blog.

    There's a wikipedia entry with a list of blog types - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog

News and Politics, Personal, Topical, Health, Literary,Travel, Research, Legal, Media, Religious.

    Want some more? - http://weblogs.about.com/cs/weblogs101/f/whoblogs.htm

Personal bloggers, Business bloggers, Organizational bloggers, Professional bloggers

When it comes down to it, blogs are not unlike any other website. They don't all need to be authoritative, because not all blogs are about news. For example, what if all you're looking for is a daily recipe. There are probably tons of blogs for that.

Even the ones that are about news could be useful if they focus on a specific niche. That way if you're interested in that niche, you could read what that blogger had to say. Whether or not the news they're reporting is true is something you should be asking yourself all the time. And not only at blogs, but also from established news sources.

With 100 million bloggers, that's not a bad audience to target.

I personally think blogs can either be a complete waste of time or VERY helpful. I find a lot of blogs that have a lot of good content. Some have tutorials, tech news, and other information that I find very useful to my everyday living. A lot of other blogs are just worthless crap about people's lives that I don't want to know about. Just be specific with the blogs you read =)

    RSS is your friend.

It's hard to find good blogs. If you go through blogger, you will never find one. You will have to cut throughthe million spam sites, teenie boppin' diaries, and lots of blogs from singapore to get to the one good blog that mightbe worth reading. I have found that most blogs worth bookmarking and coming back to are hosted on their own domain. But, like I said, there a exceptions! (I know a lot of good blogs by people who frequent forums, etc with good blogger blogs)
