Who owns a thread?

I got this response to a post. I'm not saying he's wrong, he probably isn't. I kind of got mixed up about something. But there certainly wasn't anything offensive in my post. However:

This raises a question. Who owns a thread? Can the person who started a thread ban certain posters? I know that can happen, but I always thought it was an admin option, used to control insults, porno, and other such things.

what you got was called a rep, and no, only admins and mods can ban posters. i can say "This is my thread so get lost" but that doesn't mean i can close the thread even if i want to.

The forum owns the thread, not the thread starter, management controls who posts, not the thread starter!

When someone starts a thread he/she knows anyone can post. That's the nature of a discussion forum. "Stop posting in my thread" is a load of nonsense. I'd say "Don't start a thread then smartass".

Anyone can start and anyone can reply as long as it's within the well known rules.

That's what I figured. Oh, well, some people just have bad days, I guess.
