I disagree... Windows 98 SE was the ultimate platform. I know several people using it and I'm telling them never to upgrade or get a new computer.

I used windows 98 from its release until ME. When ME came out I heard alot of crap about it, and someone gave me a disk because they didn't want it anymore. So I installed Windows ME. Then I did the patch routine off their site. Then I sat back, and looked at my 98 machine, then back at the better ME machine. It was good. For three years I used Windows ME without a crash, without a cataclysm, without a total nuke on the system. I upgraded my other computer at the time. I was afraid to take the jump to XP from ME for a while, and I couldn't afford it - and although XP is far superior to ME - ME really wasn't all that bad. For THREE years it was running on my main computer, which I constantly upgraded and updated, two years on my secondary machine, and a year on the third backup machine.

After I upgraded them to XP they all died within a month and had to be reformatted.

You'd better do it soon! Evil Microsoft will be ending licensing for XP at the end of January, 2008.

For me it is still better than Win 98 SE. If you own 98 it's not worth upgrading to ME, but if you have a new PC at that time, ME is the way to go.

I've had far less problems with WinME than I had with Win98. It was the best Windows Home OS until XP.
