The fact that the exchange name is appnexus probably means that the demand was sourced by appnexus' exchange, not some direct advertiser or network.

It is an adtag for Appnexus. Appnexus is more like an exchange like Right Media (RMX, Yeildmanager from Yahoo). Many adnetworks use Appnexus platform and their adtags looks similar. They don't seem to be into pops, but only display banner ads.
