Who is your favourite copywriter? My is Joe Vitale. I learn about copywriting from his book Hipnotic Marketing.
Out of the classic - David Ogylvi, that's for sure. He's been my copywriting mentor ever since I read his "Confessions of an Advertising Man" (1985) for the first time. The father of copywriting - no more words needed to explain why I adore him. If I am to point out a contemporary copywriter I am in the team of Mr. Fire's!'s "students" too. "Beyond Marketing" has been my beloved web "handbook" for a certain amount of time now. --Tiggi
I am also a student of Joe Vitale and appreciate some of his material. But to me he seems very insincere and over hyped. After a few e-mails or sales letters I just think, "Okay, what's he selling now." because I do not feel any sincerity or interest about what's really in it for me. I am also totally not hypnotized by his writing and have not bought anything since I bought his hypnotic writing books and his ridiculous rented advertising space that he calls a book on the Law of Attraction called The Attractor Factor. Right now I am studying Ken McCarthy's course on copywriting because I admire and respect him as a serious student of copywriting. He explores this subject very well himself discussing how important it is to have several really great copywriters that we admire and are influenced by. I am a total beginner and amature myself.
After years of reading and research I can honestly and unbiasedly report that one of the all time great copywriters is/will be this guy named "Matt". I hear he's quite the intelligent chap and nice looking to boot. (Source: His mom) Further down my list are folks like: John Caples David Ogilvy Pat Quinn Oh yeah, and this really cool guy named "Matt" who's supposedly wicked sma'ht and nice looking.
Hm, you got me thinking. To be sincere, though I adore Mr. Fire!'s work (and I am very well acquainted with it), sometimes when reading, I share your feelings. But who knows? I guess in copywriting insincerity helps - business needs writings that sell.
..but someone I've "discovered" in the last year and who delivers impact is a guy by the name of Dan Lok. Of course, Bob Bly and Clayton Makepeace are at the top of the list, too. Lisa
Yeah, I think Dan Lok is great, but is anybody a student of Ray Edwards? heard of him? Just want to know becuase I've read some of his sales letters and it's pretty well written.
I've heard of Ray Edwards; he's pretty good, even though there are some freelancers who can do great work as well, and they are much cheaper!
I started reading Joe Vitale's book about hypnotic writing - and it didn't catch my interest at all. My favorite copywriters are Bob Bly, Clayton Makepeace, and Dan Kennedy. I recently read Dan's Ultimate Sales Letter and I breezed right through it. It grabbed my attention and held it, which makes me trust him more as a copywriter.
