Put it this way, if at my age or at any time in my life i ever look at another blogger as my idol and start believing anything that the self proclaimed say il give up online work completely and go and get a job working 9 - 5. Seriously if you look beyond the tripe that gets fed to people you would see how you're being whored by following them.
All are equal in their niches. The rating depends on how they do it. Like Mashable and Huffington post are best in terms of updating.
I don't idolize any of them. In one of my niche's I think one of my blogs is better than anyone elses, so I'm not my own idol, I just think some people have more experience than me and I can catch them over time. I like all those blogs, but some of them are a little too self involved for me, and they have gotten away from the actual work. Out of the ones you named, Huffington, and Mashable throw up some good stuff consistently, they never stop working. Politico, and the Daily Koz also keep it up every single day. Some of those blogs have become just a name now, and they are more making a living now on what they used to do, and have done in the past, rather than what they continue to contribute to the field.
Darren Rowse is has done a great job. I have lost alot of respect for John Chow lately his blog is way to commercialized lately or maybe I'm just jealous.
I don't idolize any of them but I really like reading tyler cruz blog. He is a very money driven entrepreneur.
I don't idolise any of them. Although I will say that John Chow has something, he writes about what he ate the night before and people flock to read it. He Twitters that he is in a restaurant and people pay for his meal! I have not found anything helpful from his blog in months but people still flock to him.
This whole A-list blogger thing has gone pretty crazy. Bill Gates, Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg, Markus Frind, Pierre Omidyar, Sergey Brin: These are the kinda people that should be front page news. I bet you'd never find these guys on Twitter telling their loyal minians that they have just jetted off for a romantic weekend, just enjoyed some oysters, just took a steaming dump etc! And yet, I'd bet a high percentage of the most well known A-Listers (and Z-List wannabes) do exactly that! I do like how ShoeMoney started with nothing and built his own little empire. I like how John Chow proved that the world doesn't have to revolve around Google and I also like some of Steve Pavlina's personal development stuff. With these few exceptions though, 95% of the rest are nowhere near as good as they think they are.
I do not see what is so special about these guys... I read other blogs that are just as good but not as well known. For example, I like john cow better than john chow and one of my favorite blogs is internetmarketingsucks, but I don't even know the guy's name.
