Submit express are software developers, I said have a look at who is the top placed consultant ;)

RE 500 uniques, I have a client who gets less than 50 a week, but makes plenty from it. Can I get them any more traffic? YES, will they earn more? NO as they are getting almost all the orders for what they do. we have carried out mountains and mountains of keyword research and there is no more business to be had. They are over the moon though.

SEO is dead anyhow, the web has moved on from there it has now grown up a little and realised that it is about marketing not placement (Thank god). :D

Good point. Years ago webmasters thought "If we build it, they'll come...". They soon changed their mind to "We've built it, but we better make sure they'll come (SEO)...".

But... Some are still forgetting the all important step. "We've built it well, we've been attracting quality leads (not necessarily quantity) now we'll make sure they will be converted!".

Only then is the picture complete...

...unless you throw customer retention in the mix as well...

    OWG & Top

Excellent points - conversions are king. $$$, members, subscriptions, click throughs - whatever brings value back to the investor.

Its funny how - many of us - have missed this or have lost contact with that over the course of our efforts.

Once after weeks of tweaking the SEO elements of a clients site and climbing up the serps and watching the traffic start to trickle into a steady stream....only then did we realise how little 'conversion optimization' the site had, and how poorly it converted..

It was several more tweaks before sales matched the increased traffic.

'Call to action' and 'conversion driving' language isn't really the theme of this forum, but I'd like to find a good source of conversation and discussion for that. I could use some feedback and ideas for better conversion verbage and layouts.

Anyone know of any good forums for that - or can I highjack a category here..? ;)

I would definitley be interested in a conversion related category at DP forum.

I have been researching conversion on my own, and have found these sites useful.

    http://www.conversionchronicles.com
    http://www.grokdotcom.com

    Both have informative newsletters.

I am at this point myself, having found the traffic, now I need to convert more of it!

ahhh..I can say ,The advertising budget of 2 sites that listed on the first page of "real estate" key words = $0. It's take 2 years to be on the first page. if you can make it rank well faster then that with no budget. I give up

I would disagree. Some of the biggest are falling from the rankings and disappearing completely becuase they have too many links acquired in the wrong way. If you can maintain 500,000 IBls, many of which are PR8 and PR7 site-wides and not get filtered, you must know what you are doing.

So even buying links has to be done properly. An SEO king IMO is someone who can buy tuns of links.. sell links (and break even there), and make a killing from adsense and sales, and at the same time avoid all filters and red flags.

Maybe king is not the right word, how about champion, hero or seo's seo? Limited to users of this forum? I would measure it by, high natural search engine rankings, who gets the most free traffic from seo?
Someone who is good at conversions, may not be good a seo.

Brad, if you are looking for seo work, I would post what it is you are trying to accomplish. There are many here and success is also based on the budget you are ready to invest. I for example do take various jobs from non competitive to highly competitive.

You can PM me in private if you wish and I can tell you what I myself could do as well as tell you the names of a few others who I consider right for the work you request.

I am not really looking for work done, but it would be good to get an idea of who may actually know what they are talking about. I already know that 90% here know more than me.

    Call me the Contessa... ;)

I have a client with more than several hundred (I stopped counting) top five spots in G/Y/M. The guys OWNS his market! When I started working with him he had maybe a hundred uniques per month, now he gets 17 thousand. Considering that his average sale is $2,500+ he's a very happy man. He loves me.

I'm also getting killer serps for my own site in my region. Might not be a big deal to others, but considering I'm near San Francisco/Silicon Valley and some major SEO firms it make me smile to know that I've got better placement them they do. :D

Since the year started I'm finding that a lot of people who call about SEO are asking more questions about ROI and tracking. Seems like the general client is more educated, which is great because it makes talking with them easier. There are a lot of elements that businesses should look at before investing in a consultant or service. There's no point in spending thousands on seo if your website doesn't convert or generate leads (or worse yet the client hasn't thought twice about setting any goals).

I see more people demanding pay for performance deals, so I'm testing this out.

i think no one is king but they (keyword, content, back links) make a system which need all of them to work.

Revenue might be the best metric.

Unique visitors is a good one though. I'm probably around 15k uniques a day on my oddball collection of vanity sites.
