I first became aware of Eric Ward when he told me that I undoubtedly should know who he was. Nothing like being full of yourself, huh? This industry is full of self-declared experts, and where there's dollars to be made you'll find people queuing up to kiss their feet (take 10 minutes to listen to webmasterradio and you'll get an ear full of these so-called experts patting each other on the back and telling each other how amazing they are).

For a long time I thought I was pretty darn good at doing link building (or more to the point, I didn't trust anyone else to do it better than me), and then I discovered someone even better. So much so that I now contract out all of my (and my clients') link building duties to her and have been delighted with the results. She's not a 'name player', doesn't promote herself (she'd absolutely hate the publicity), and in fact I rather suspect that she reluctantly takes on the work. And I wouldn't swap her for any of the name players.

So I would suggest that for every 'Eric Ward' there's two dozen guys/gals, like the one I contract to, quietly doing a much, much better job.

No, not by the # of links to their site.

and I am not saying that those who are known are the "best: and there is no other even better ones. But as a consumer, you can only know if you are told or read some where about a product or service.

"If a tree falls in the jungle and it might be the loudest that ever fell, but if I wasn't there to hear, I cant know that fact.....unless someone tells me or something"

So, we can only go by a link builders input in the link building industry, their ability to get their name up there for me to even know them etc.

So the one I know is Andy Hagans. Eric Ward only because he ranks so high for link building keyword.
I know that Jim Boykin is very good also, but very expensive.

Are there top builders !! that you know about and have worked with and is affordable ?
Not some 'UserName' from a forum, but an actual name of a link builder.

Personally I think the team of Jim Boykins - http://www.webuildpages.com/ are certainly on top of the league...Honestly I see myself at some 90 % of them as of now...

I would never in a million years insinuate that anyone should know who I am. I live quietly away from the linkerati and work in a small office above my garage in Knoxville TN. On purpose. For 15 years. If I needed people to know who the f I was I'da moved to New York or San Fran freeking forever ago. For you to say I EVER told you you should know who I am is an outright lie and I call you on it. So leave me alone, and pick on someone who deserves it.

    Sincerely,

    Eric Ward
