Defence Secretary designate 26 year CIA Kingpin So new face new beginning? No Baggage? Comments please :-
I'm sure the liberals will find fault no matter who has any given job: Powell=not black enough Rice= not black enough Gonzales=inept Rumsfeld=inept Cheney=evil Bush=stupid and on and on it goes where the wind of hot air from the left takes the key kill phrase of the day.
Start a thread about anything and someone like Mojo will inject the word liberal and turn the thread stupid. Extend that kind of uniform response into the political world and that is why the republicans got whipped. Six straight years of that type of governing turned the great American middle against the Republican political majority. Per some exit polls 57% of independants voted Democratic. That is where the election turned. It didn't turn because of the far right or the far left. It turned because a majority of the middle got turned off by Republican corruption and the war in Iraq. The longer the war went on and the more Americans of all types questioned it...the louder the extreme right perspective became about this stupid us against them political bs. But who is Gates: Here is a quick review from Time Mag: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1556651,00.html?cnn=yes Of note. The article references that Gates' past suggests he was closer to Cheney in the past then other members of Bush I's administration. Yet according to leaks to the press speaking about the resignation of Rumsfeld it was Cheney that argued most strongly to keep Rumsfeld and Cheney who didn't want Gates. That is interesting.
Yep, spot on. I do hope some liberals will not suddenly ignore that they've been doing these things for so long and try to rewrite history. But I'm sure some will.
Well that is interesting if true that Cheney didn't want Gates, and wanted Rumsfeld to stay Seems that the old cartel is starting to dismantle 'brick by brick' is this the beginning of the end for the neo-cons caucus ?

Actually put the Democrats in control of the Executive and both parties of the legislature and they'll probably go corrupt also. In fact that contributed to the Republicans taking over the Senate and House 14 years ago. Corruption springs up in either party when they have total power and go extreme. Its interesting to realize that even as this election was moving forward the White House was preparing for the possibility of a change in power and took an immediate step to change direction in an area where they are most vulnerable. Of course Mojo, I mentioned the two topics that are most cited by most pollsters as reasons for the voters turning against the Republican Congress. You don't like the reasons. Speak to the majority of voters and specifically the voters who straddle the middle rather than the extreme wing of either party. It will be interesting to see how many attacks hit Rumsfeld from the senior military or the recently retired senior military. Of course that is somewhat moot. It would be better for all concerned to move forward with Gates.
Not that I disagree that politicians are corrupt; indeed, they are simply two sides to the same coin..I honestly believe that. However, for you to say me using the word liberal is wrong or imply it is somehow stupid.. well, points 1-6 in my original post in this thread show that to be wrong. I mean, come on... what kind of people say Ms Rice isn't black enough or that Powell is an "Uncle Tom"???
As it regards this thread nobody had said it but you. But this thread is about Gates....and we will learn more about him as time goes on. Frankly unless something really bad pops up about him that noone knows about I hope he gets approved quickly.
Of course no one had! It was the first reply! my post simply reflects that no matter what, because Gates was apponted by Bush, the libs will find fault in him.. the fucking guy could walk on water and the next day the democrats will have shown on CNN that Gates cant swim.
MoJo is a bit out of touch on what a liberal and a conservative is. He has proven that many times and misses the memos apparently everyday. After watching the news myself today for at least 12 hours, I have been led to believe that Gates should find Zero resistence from the "dems" being confirmed. Another memo apparently missed.
Dems and liberals are not synonomous. 48% of the dems that voted in the democratic primary for Connecticut senator voted for Lieberman. He is currently stronger with Bush on Iraq than an increasing number of republicans. A fair number of Dems that were just elected are middle of the road with mixtures of traditional liberal and conservative perspectives. The smartest thing Pelosi did as one of the leaders on the dem side this election was stifle the most extreme parts of the party. As far as Gates...we will see what happens. If extreme parts of the dems speak out about him we will see how the dem majority reacts. If extreme elements of the far right speak out against him we will see how the republican powers react.
