Who is responsible for content downloaded on your Internet connection

One of my friends wants to let his house out as a holiday home. He'll be providing Internet access to his lodgers but is worried that they may download dodgy material (child porn) and he will be held responsible as the Internet connection is in his name. Is there anything he can do to protect himself from this? Thanks.

draft a simple internet usage & policy for the leasee to sign. Have it state "the "tenant" understands that he/she will abide by the laws in which it is to respect of (yourcountry and law here) for any other use that may be contradictory and deemed illegal and not misuse the internet service provided by the "owner". Define tenant and owner in the top of the agreement, have them both sign & date. If they do download kiddie porn, it's their ass and not your friends.

you'll probably want to do a google search for a good internet usage policy, since my rant does not include a responsibility of the internet usage clause for the duration of the lease.

Unless he has a disclaimer as Zebulon suggested, he is responsible for it. So make sure he gets one.

    Or better tennants.
